"My three main goals are integrity, ethics and community."

Former Eureka City Councilmember, First Chairperson of the Measure Z commitee and Humboldt County Planning Commission member Mike Newman has filed a candidate intention statement to run for Fourth District Supervisor.

I just spoke with Mike who I have known for over a decade.

He was on the Workforce Development Board and just resigned after 8 years. "In addition to my volunteer work which is giving back to the community, I have a full time job.

Mike is also on the Humboldt Housing and Homeless Committee.

"After the 2014 Eureka Council race, I decided to refocus my efforts into the community. My three main goals are integrity, ethics and community."

"When I was on the Measure Z committee, I made sure the money went where voters wanted."

On the Worforce Develooment Board, Mike worked with College of the Redwoods to get grants for people who wanted to "work in trades. Helping the workforce in our County is very important to me."

"You can't ignore businesses. You must incubate them. That is one of my strong points."

With Virginia Bass deciding not to run for re-election; the timing was right for Mike to seek this position which will have an impact on the many crucial issues in the Fourth District and Humboldt.

Eureka Councilmembers Kim Bergel and Natalie Arroyo are the two other candidates running for the same position.
