The rumors that Fourth District Supervisor Virginia Bass is not running for re-election because she is seeking statewide committee appointment or state position have been circulating for months.
They resurfaced today at the same time when there are rumblings in the conservative circles from the good ole boys usually involved in funding and selecting a candidate. It seems they have a candidate to run against Bass if she choses to seek another term as well as Eureka Councilmembers Natalie Arroyo and Kim Bergel.
I heard some think a person of color is all that is needed to take votes from Arroyo; a woman if they absolutely had no other choice. The reaction to gay is lukewarm and of course, transgendered or non binary and person of color is just too much for the good ole boys and gals to handle. I also heard Bass will make an announcement soon.
This from the same people who haven't managed to fund and have someone conservative or moderate win in the last two Eureka elections. The same ole funders with the same arrogant, failed strategy who cannot even get enough people to phone bank or walk think their same tired tactics work. If their candidate does win in the next election, it will depend on who the candidate is and if the candidate's positions resonate with the Fourth District Voters. Bass, Bergel, Arroyo are the status quo. 2010 victories were not because of the good ole boys and gals. Their egos can't handle the truth.
Until someone files paperwork, it is all rumors.
