John Chiv: More waste of time and resources in this circus of a case when several others are waiting for their day in court

Ray Christie has a trial confirmation/resetting of trial hearing on January 18. Currently, his retrial is scheduled for January 31. Judge Elvine-Kreis was assigned to the case for all purposes. This was after Judge Christopher Wilson, who presided over the first trial was in the middle of certain rulings.

I reported on January 13 that Judge Gregory Elvine-Kreis had not been all week and Courtroom 3 had been closed all week. I checked on Friday at 1:30 and the case has been moved to Courtroom 5. That is Judge Christopher Wilson's courtroom. There is no calendar for Courtroom 3 today. Elvine-Kreis is expected to be back this week.

If Elvine-Kreis is back today, he is the trial judge for the Ulisses Rodriguez which may or may not start today. No jurors will be in the courtroom that day. That trial could go on for 4 to 6 weeks.

Who knows what will happen on January 18? I am not going to waste my time covering a hearing in person where nothing may happen, and if anything does happen, it will just be setting of dates. If dates are confirmed or reset, I can add them later as well as any pertinent information.

So much time has been taken up by this one case when there are many people waiting for justice and their day in court. I have other cases and news to cover.

Judge Gregory Elvine-Kreis tentatively granted the defense request to continue the trial for medical reasons but the final decision was going to be made based on Christie providing medical/dental information from his doctors. Defense has submitted documents with letters from doctors and a declaration from Christie's attorney, Mr. Richmond. If the defense request is granted, Christie's trial could be postponed until June 2022 or longer. Usually, continuances for medical reasons are granted.

Judge Elvine-Kreis was going to submit a wriiten ruling on the defense motion to dismiss criminal charges or suppress evidence from the 2018 raid. When I checked last week, no ruling had been issued.

Just in the last two months, a lot of time and resources have been wasted on motions about issues that defense will probably revisit for the next few months and during motions in limine.

Who will end up being the trial Judge or prosecutor with uncertainty of when this may go to trial.
