Why is the identity of a wanted felon who fled from law enforcement, caused extensive damage, could have killed others being withheld?

I emailed some follow up questions to Eureka Police Department Crime Analyst Brittany Powell about the officer involved shooting that occurred  on December 30 while pursuing a wanted felon.

It is 4 days since the 3rd and T, 5th and 6th multi agency, multi incident in Eureka.

"Just checking in with you regarding OIS from last week. Do you have any eta on when more information will be released? Will it be from EPD or another agency? I dont understand why we cannot have the name of the wanted felon who was taken into custody."

This is the response I received from Ms. Powell at 2:25 p.m. after the publication of this post.

Hi John,

Updates will be from our agency.  We have received the inquiries and will get information out as able.

Thank you,

Brittany

They can investigate the OIS, they can wait to release the officer (s) name  Why is the identity of a wanted felon who fled from law enforcement, caused extensive damage, could have killed others being withheld?

That felon rammed law enforcement vehicles, has caused extensive damage and expenses to one of Eureka's larger hotels which will obviously cost and impact the business, wasted all first responder resources for hours because the felon wanted to flee.

Is this felon still in custody? How would we know?

They can wait days to have a press conference or release more details which will basically be the name(s) of  the officers and the drug task force investigation which started the whole thing and present whatever "neat package" they want to the public.

There was live coverage. We saw two people detained and the felon arrested and put into an ambulance. The public deserves a name and booking photo.
