I received this image from someone who reads my blog regularly and from a business, marketing and hospitality background.
"Hi John,
Something bugged me about the image on LoCO for the new movie trailer. I still do not know what it is. However, I grabbed the image and blew it up. And there is the old town required, homeless enforced, broken window in the image. I did not view the promo. Denial is not a river..."
This reader is not alone in noticing these boarded up windows all over Eureka, especially in Old Town and Downtown. I have done several posts in the last two years. These eyesores brought to you by the leadership of Eureka Councilmembers Kim Bergel and Natalie Arroyo. If you want all of the 4th District to look like this, be sure to vote for them.
The fences and the boarded windows have increased under the Eureka City Council in the last four years. It isn't just Prop 47 or California weather. It is Humboldt's tolerance for chronic addicts, repeat offenders and the 1 % who profit like leeches from manipulating the Humboldt economy for their own benefit, grabbing up land and properties, subsidizing their wealth with government subsidies and funding their puppet politicians. The "progressives" on Eureka City Council have done bupkis for the people.
Right after I posted, I got a text from Anthony Mantova. His store has been vandalized and windows have been broken several times.
"Funny, one minute ago a guy just asked me how often my windows are broken! I answered truthfully, and average of one broken window every four months ! Average cost $2000 a year,"said Mantova.
Mantova is just one of the many business owners shelling out money on a yearly basis. With the PG & E blackouts and COVID 19 impact, no business can afford extra expenses in a rural area where economic struggle is the reality for the 99 %.
