EPD assists HCSO in apprehending convicted criminal who fled from deputy

On Jan. 27, 2022, at about 3:42 a.m., a Humboldt County Sheriff’s deputy on patrol in the Eureka area attempted a traffic stop for a vehicle code violation near Broadway and Truesdale Streets. The vehicle failed to yield and fled from the deputy at a high rate of speed.

Deputies pursued the vehicle for approximately 13 miles to the Tompkins Hill area and back to Eureka. The Eureka Police Department (EPD) was requested to assist. In the area of Broadway and W Hawthorne Streets, EPD officers successfully deployed a spike strip, causing the vehicle to become disabled near W Wabash Avenue.

The driver of the vehicle, later identified as 47-year-old Michael Wayne Brissette, fled the vehicle. Following a short foot pursuit, law enforcement officers successfully took Brissette into custody.

Brissette was booked into the Humboldt County Correctional Facility on charges of evading a peace officer (VC 2800.2), resisting arrest (PC 148(a)(1)) and violation of probation (PC 1203.2(a)(2)).

The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the Eureka Police Department for their assistance in the successful apprehension of Brissette.
