Stacey Eads kicks off live announcement for DA

Assistant Deputy District Attorney Stacey Eads is giving a brief,  live announcement speech on the courthouse steps right now. Ms. Eads is one of the candidates running for District Attorney.

I reported on January 14 that she was running for DA and included a statement from her. As I said in my last post, there is one clear choice and that person is Ms. Eads.

District Attorney Fleming introduced Ms. Eads and gave her endorsement and support. They have worked together as colleagues and Ms. Fleming is her boss. Ms. Fleming's remarks were similar to the ones she made in Ms. Eads' statement which is in the January 14 post.

After thanking all who showed up, Ms. Eads made a brief speech formally announcing her candidacy and why she wants your vote.

"Home is a place where we should feel safe, secure and protected. As an assistant DA, mom to three daughters, I call Humboldt my home. Just like you all, I am committed and invested in Humboldt County."

"I will work tirelessly to keep the serious violent offenders off the streets." Ms. Eadssaid she woukd protect the "most vulnerable" mentioning children, dependent adults and elders.

"Property crime is skyrocketing. I will not shy away from addressing crime."

Ms. Eads said she would advocate for lawmakers in Sacramento to hold criminals accountable.

Ms. Eads ended her speech by saying, "As your next District Attorney, first and foremost, I will seek justice."

Retired CHP and former DA investigator Adam Jager, former DA staff member Marian Hancock, few current DA employees and staff , District Attorney Maggie Fleming, Deputy DA Trent Timm, Deputy DA Luke Bernthal, Deputy DA Roger Rees  and DA Chief Investigator Kyla Baxley are here.

About 20 people were here. Now the crowd is growing. A lot of DA staff, victim witness, DA  employees and law enforcement are here so about 50 people. The fact that so many of the DA staff and people from the criminal justice system are here shows Ms. Eads has support from her office and associated agencies.

First District Supervisor Rex Bohn is hanging outside the Courthouse involving himself and inserting himself in the announcement and trying to organize the crowd. I am not going to list all the usual conservative politico attendees. There is a mixed crowd in attendance with different political, economic and social beliefs and not all of them are a part of the good ole Humboldt boy and gal clique. There was no endorsement or introduction from Rex today.

Ms. Eads handled a beligerent homeless man disrupting the event with compassion. She gave him some candy, was patient and listened to him. Ms. Eads gave this guy the same attention she did to other people speaking with her. Ms. Eads was able to get the guy to walk away by calmly speaking to him and treating him with respect. In her speech, she spoke about mental health in the criminal justice system.

The guy had an audience and he wasn't about to let it go to waste. I am familiar with his antics and have seen the havoc he causes daily outside the Courthouse.

Rex was unable to get the guy to leave when he tried. Rex shooing him away was ineffective. Rex eventually got three deputies to come over. Rex has ignored this man hanging out harassing and threatening me and others entering and exiting the courthouse for days. He turns the "mentally ill" act on and off depending on who is around. Rex took action today because playing "hero" in front of the TV camera was an incentive.

You can't count on elected officials to do anything unless it benefits them. This guy has been hassling people and being violent, trashing the courthouse, destroying property for days. Rex could have taken care of the situation days and weeks ago, if he wanted.

Humboldt County Board of Supervisors should have passed Laura's Law years ago. The BOS is in charge of DHHS budget, the DA's budget and all County dollars.

The DA's office cannot fix the issues of homelessness, poverty and mental health. Instead of schmoozing and hanging out at every event outside the courthouse steps,  Rex's time would have been better spent today calling a social worker to deal with this beligerent guy or Rex can ask his Humboldt connected buddies like Rob McBeth to donate some funds to a programs at the DA's office. McBeth is too busy making sure the McBeth-Storme and useless minions dictate and work on every campaign.  Instead of listening to people who were actually responsible for the 2010 and other election victories these ego maniacs take credit when the failures of the last few elections are their fault . Their relevance, influence and "popularity" has dwindled. The election results in the last two years speak for themselves.

I won't go into two faced and ungrateful behavior by certain political people at this event and in this town. They can continue to be pissed about the truth I write about them. There are certain people who show up at every political announcement with their own agenda. Ignore their support for any candidate.

One of the reasons  I gave Rex any ink in this post is because I have seen some ignorant comments on other local media sites. People who only read those sites are confused and uneducated about the role of the DA, the courts, the criminal justice system and base their information on sites with sporadic or no court coverage. My readers are well informed.

Take issues Supervisors should deal with to them; not the DA, law enforcement or media.

This year, you have the chance to elect a DA and a Judge. To have a say in the local justice system with your vote instead of a Facebook comment. Read up on more than one or two cases on this blog if you want a more accurate idea of the candidates running for legal offices.

Do not punish a candidate because certain entitled names from the right or left support them. That has cost Humboldt decent candidates in the last few years.

Ms. Eads is her own person. She is a private person but I have seen her prosecute different types of cases and I have seen her values in action. Get to know her at events or come to court and watch her do her job.

Make your decisions about Ms. Eads based on talking with her and her qualifications and not because certain people were at this announcement or may support or endorse her.

As both Ms. Fleming and Ms. Eads pointed out today, Ms. Eads has already been assisting the current DA while prosecuting cases. With her, the office can smoothly transition and continue providing justice for victims.

I saw Deputy DA Roger Rees yesterday and he told me  he is not running for DA. I checked with elections a couple of days ago and so far, the only other candidate with intention to run for DA is Deputy Public Defender Adrian Kamada.

Ms.Eads has 20 years of experience. Kamada barely has 8 years.
