Speaking of carcasses, animal cruelty and polluting the waters, this cow was stuck for three days in filthy mud without food and water and does not belong to Ray Christie.
There are three photos above of the Humboldt Auction yard. The manure from the yard goes into the Eel River.
These photos were taken from the freeway. One photo was on October 24 at 4:30. The second one on October 24 at 6:47. The third photo was on October 25. The person who took the photo called HCSO on the first day and followed up several times. The dispatcher said the information will be passed to the appropriate jurisdiction. The second time, the HCSO dispatcher connected the reporting party to the Fortuna Police Department. FPD said there was no animal control officer on duty that day. I have two incident report numbers. If there was any follow up, how would we know?
There have been other calls about cows directly to the Humboldt Auction yard. People were not sure whether the cows were dead or stuck. Ever hear about those? Former Animal Deputy Travis Mendes used to be at the auction yard every Wednesday. He is now a court bailiff. Did he not ever see any cow stuck or any conditions worth reporting? Does Mendes never drive by the Humboldt Auction yard? Does no one from HCSO or the Fortuna Police Department ever drive by the Humboldt Auction yard? Humboldt County Sheriff William Honsal lives in Fortuna. First District Supervisor Rex Bohn drives all over Humboldt, including going to Fortuna.
Mendes testified at Christie's first trial. He is in the courtroom for hearings on Christie's case and listening in on information about the retrial. Other witnesses on a case are excluded from courtrooms.
Mendes can work for HCSO and as a court bailiff; but his being allowed to be in the courtroom on Christie's case is just one example of such occurences and no one seems to care or monitor such blatant Humboldt injustice.
Since I did my November 11 and 12 posts on the federal raid and defense filings in U.S. District Court and Humboldt Superior Court in Ray Christie's case, I have been contacted by several people. This case has attracted national attention and a federal investigation and has implications beyond one individual.
I spoke to several people who are insiders in the local cattle industry and familiar with the workings of the Humboldt Auction yard. These people said there are many others who want to speak up but are afraid. These people approached me.
Christie had no idea until I called him to confirm something about Alexandre Family Farms. He did say he was inundated with calls after my posts last week.
"Ray is the only one who buys sub par cattle," said one person. As someone who has been in the business for several years, he reiterated what Christie and his lawyers have said many times. "Sometimes the sick, malnourished cattle cannot be nursed back to health."
Another person said, "Ray Christie has been supporting that auction yard for 30 years." This person claims the auction yard refused to give any statements for Christie. Another person said the same thing.
Alexandre Family Farms owns three dairies in Smith River, one in Eureka and one in Ferndale. One person said "they owed Ray $275,000 and they defaulted. He never sued them. " Christie, at a later date, confirmed this information.
That person added that Alexandre Family Farms has been cited as the nations first certified regenerative dairy, their website states that they are certified in humane animal practices and won recognition for 2018 Organic Farmers of the Year. That person said Alexandre Family Farm employees "were told to stay away from the Ray Christie trial. With all their expertise, why would they not offer that for this case?"
The same person told me people were calling each other and him about my posts last week saying,"Did you see this? That Chiv has some guts."
One person who met me said, "We have never had any other media willing to take on the news you do and tell the stories and give public information."
"The insider fraudelent practices are well known. Nobody at the auction yard is standing up for Ray Christie," said another person. " I want to speak up but I am afraid of retribution."
Someone brought up my posts on Christie buying two of the pigs Humboldt County Sheriff Billy Honsal's son Jack raised. Christie purchased these animals on two separate occasions; one last year and one this year.
"Why did the Sheriff allow Ray to buy those two pigs if he thinks Ray is guilty of animal cruelty?" he asked.
There were several witnesses, including people from the Auction yard who were going to testify at the first trial. The defense only called two witnesses. These did not include anyone from the Auction yard. I am aware of one reason, which happens all the time in private discussions in Humboldt trials. The other reasons will probably come up if there is a retrial and if any of these witnesses testify, you can hear from them on record.
We live in a small community. Was there witness intimidation or discouragement? People would only speak to me anonymously because they are fearful.
The world of dairymen, ranchers and farmers in Humboldt is no different than the media, casinos, businesses, courts, law enforcement or organizations in Humboldt. There are multiple conflicts of interest that people overlook because they are weak or profit from and because it is easier to go after someone who does not have the money and resources to fight them or someone they can target politically by using Humboldt dirty intimidation tactics. If they want to destroy you, they blacklist you "informally"; they harass your supporters.
There are the Humboldt connected who use their political and business connections to their advantage. People sue each other then later do business with the same people. The two faced, backstabbing in Humboldt is at a level unlike any other place. There is selective enforcement about rules. Many people own more than one business in Humboldt and create a monopoly and unfair advantage which allows them to quell competition.
In my November 11 post I wrote, "Are we to believe Maggie Fleming, Rex Bohn and Billy Honsal and the community members who complain to them about Ray Christie don't know of any other rancher or farmer violating the law in Humboldt? Rex and Billy know a lot of farmers, ranchers, dairymen. Does every dead animal that is found by CHP or CDFW belong to Christie? I did some previous posts where an animal on the highway did not belong to Ray Christie but that is where they head first, why?"
I did two previous posts. One on was on a critically injured cow which did not belong to Christie. And yet another post where CHP assumes a cow belonged to Christie but it ended up belonging to Domingo Santos.
Stephanie Alexandre served on the California Certified Organic Farmers Board for 12 years. Blake Alexandre is on the Humboldt County Farm Board, Junior Livestock Auction Board, North Coast Regional Land Trust Board, California Organic Products Advisory Committee, Del Norte County Resource Conservation District, and the Farm Bureau Board. Joseph Alexandre is on the North Coast Regional Land Trust Board. Blake Alexandre and Leland Mora are advisors on the North Coast Regional Land Trust Board. The Mora family is involved in several livestock businesses. These are only some examples of conflicts of interests.
Here is information easily available on google and Facebook. Justin Mora is friends with Rex Bohn on Facebook. Endorsers of Rex Bohn include Lee Mora. Billy Honsal and Rex Bohn often endorse the same people. They hang out at many events including the FFA and Humboldt Auction Yard.
On their own website is information that the Mora family operates the Humboldt Auction yard, Humboldt Grassfed beef and is involved in one other livestock business.
On their website in one place it states Humboldt Grassfed Beef cattle come from ranches throughout Northern California. In another place, it says "cows born and raised in grassy pastures near Ferndale and Fortuna"
Northern California does not equal Humboldt. Near Ferndale and Fortuna is vague, how do we know they are raised in Humboldt? Can they provide records that all their beef is 100% locally grown as they state on their website?
Maybe Rex and Sheriff Billy Bob can explain if there are different rules for their friends and endorsers?
Maybe it is a good thing there is a retrial in the Ray Christie case. With eyes on this case nationally, maybe finally the Redwood curtain will pulled back and expose those who have gotten away with destroying people, livelihoods and a lot more.
Local lawyers and agencies who should protect are too afraid to take on real injustice. The fact that more and more people are going to lawyers outside Humboldt is something I warned about. Every single lawyer who is not from Humboldt but anywhere else in California is professional and gives 200 % for their clients.
That isn't the only change happening. The Humboldt connected and entrenched are feeling the impact on their pocketbook yet they remain unremorseful, arrogant and continue the same failed strategies.
Are the bullies in Humboldt that arrogant or stupid or both? They should use some of that Humboldt cash and educate themselves about hubris.
North Coast Journal bought the Ferndale Enterprise from the Titus family. Andy Titus is listed among the top 20 for farm subsidies. Other familiar names in the top 20 the Russ families, the Renner families.
You really think NCJ or any other local media would have investigated or published anything brought up in this article? Their selective coverage of court cases alone is answer.
Mary Bullwinkel should not be writing for the Times Standard with her conflicts of interest. She is not a reporter nor are there any disclaimers. LOCO gave and TS gives local blowhard, Bill Maher wannabe Matt Owen, a place to regurgitate month old and week talking points from national media and the same bs he has said for over decade. He hates Republicans and conservatives but had no problem asking them for money for his wife, ex wife or whatever his current relationship status is with Virginia Bass. Who cares what a loser who garnered the worst results in his localelection bid and isn't even relevant in local political or business community anymore thinks?
With their resources and number of staffers, the other local media have done absolutely nothing that has changed the status quo in Humboldt for decades.
With all the money, subsidies, money from the Humboldt hustle, how many of the Humboldt connected are broke, living on credit and owe money? The other local media has no clue and even if they did, so far they have not investigated or covered real news or done a single expose which involves going against the Humboldt connected. You can't do that when your publishers and owners have multiple conflicts of interest that most of you don't even bother to disclose and is ignored conveniently by the apathetic, powerless Humboldt psychphants.
Many in the local left and the right are hypocrites. They ignore what they want despite years of truth right in their face. The local left gives a pass when their preferred media fawns all over Steve Watson, Andy Mills, Rex or Billy. The local right advertise with the "libs" and read and frequent the comment sections of the same local media sources who they complain works against their interest but expect support from people they screw over and do nothing for except use.
