Carter House up for sale comes as no surprise

"Hotel Carter and Wine Cellar, a member of Select Registry® and Unique Inns, Extraordinary Country Inns, Bed & Breakfasts, and Boutique Hotels in the North American West, is a 23-room hotel in Eureka, California, on the active Redwoods Coast. This Eureka California boutique hotel for sale is 5 hours from San Francisco or Sacramento and 7 hours from Portland."
Reason for selling is listed as "focusing on other ventures."

They closed the restaurant. Had no plans to reopen it. Carter House has gone through at least three managers in the last two years. The managers are not the problem. High turnover usually reflects poor decisions by the owners and Carter House isn't the only one in Humboldt with that problem. This sale comes as no surprise.

The City of Eureka's plan to use the nearby parking lot for one of the low income housing projects they rammed  through and all the tweakers and bums around the area would turn off any buyer.

There are so many businesses up for sale or going through change of ownership. Not every business has a listing. A lot of businesses are listing with agents and companies outside Humboldt.

Any investor who is savvy and does their research on Humboldt will be able to negotiate the deal to their advantage or pass on the purchase. The online comments (on Lost Coast Outpost's article this week about the Humboldt housing market) regarding the conditions of local properties will scare off decent, potential buyers.

Those who can afford to leave are fleeing Humboldt and California in droves. Many plan to follow as soon as possible. Even more would leave if they could.
