Yes,Shane, we do need new leadership in this county and the Board of Supervisors. What we don't need is a candidate running on a single issue and someone part of the local entrenched system

In October 2021,I reported that the Fifth District Supervisor Race might have more than one challenger to the incumbent Steve Madrone. I did not mention that the challenger was a HCSO deputy in that post.

Local business owner Larry Doss is the only one who has taken out paperwork and has a website.

When I did my post, I was aware it was HCSO Deputy Shane Steele. And not from the guest opinion in the Mad River Union.  I only become aware of that after my October post and only because someone showed it to me.

Shane, you were vague about what district you may run but there are only two upcoming seats open on the BOS and I am pretty sure you aren't interested in the Fourth District.

The entire problem with Humboldt is a clique with only their own self interest making bad decisions and choices which only profit their select group. "Leaders" with no vision. The drugs, abandoned storefronts, lack of affordable housing did not happen in a vaccum.

Local cliques who discourage, retaliate and informally or openly blacklist anyone who doesn't play their stupid, petty games.

While I am generally pro law enforcement, having one as a politician is a bad idea. And if someone from local law enforcement is going to run; my choice would not be you.

HDSO running select ads and press releases in certain local media is not new leadership; it is the same old Humboldt bs of one group wanting their guy/gal in the system. We already have enough of that kind of unprofessionalism in Humboldt, including from local law enforcement departments.

How would your candidacy benefit everyone in Humboldt County? Talk is cheap. Pull papers. Articulate positions that are beyond the talking points of HDSO wanting more money and be inclusive.
