Humboldt Superior Court is trying to get more courtrooms opened up so more jury trials can proceed. This morning, it was still one jury trial and one courtroom.
After the mid morning break, attorneys and defendants were informed by Judge Kaleb Cockrum that after speaking with Humboldt Presiding Judge Joyce Hinrich and court administration, "Humboldt County is making every effort to get jury trials out. As of next week, a second trial courtroom will be available."
Humboldt County's status from the purple tier to the red tier was one factor. "Jury selection can be a vector to the spread of COVID 19" therefore only one jury panel will be convened at one time.
Picking juries will be staggered and there are reccommendations by Public Health for safety.
I am sure Humboldt Superior Court will issue a press release when they can and have details finalized.
