Dr. Scott Green, a California plastic surgeon, appeared for his traffic violation hearing in Sacramento Superior Court on Zoom and he was wearing scrubs, gloves, a mask and surgical cap.
"Are you available for trial?" the court clerk asked Green. "It kind of looks like you're in an operating room right now."
"I am, sir. I'm in an operating room. Yes, I'm available for trial. Go right ahead," said Green.
Medical equipment could be heard in the background. Green was seen handling surgical tools. Green said another surgeon was nearby to assist while he made his court appearance.
Judge Gary Link rescheduled the trial.
"So unless I'm mistaken, I'm seeing a defendant that's in the middle of an operating room appearing to be actively engaged in providing services to a patient," said Judge Link. "I do not feel comfortable for the welfare of a patient if you're in the process of operating that I would put on a trial."
The Medical Board of California is investigating the incident.
The Sacramento Bee posted livestream video and this made national news.
