"A Superior Court Judge has approximately the same rank as a state legislator or county supervisor. Shouldn't we hold them to the same level of moral behavior?"

 


A concerned resident of Humboldt who clearly read my most recent post on Judge Gregory Elvine-Kreis emailed me some thoughts and comments.

I am going to refer to him as "K." He took the time to back his opinion with links and information.

"A Superior Court Judge has approximately the same rank as a state legislator or county supervisor. Shouldn't we hold them to the same level of moral behavior?"

"And like elected officials, they give up many of the attributes of a "private life."

"For our civilization to flourish, individuals must act in a civil manner."

"The Superior Court Trial Court branches are part of a State entity so the following overrules a local "preferred pastime"."

ADVISORY COMMITTEE COMMENTARY: Canons 2 and 2A

. . . A judge must avoid all impropriety* and appearance of impropriety.

* A judge must expect to be the subject of constant public scrutiny. 

A judge must therefore accept restrictions on the judge' conduct that might be viewed as burdensome by other members of the community and should do so freely and willingly.
