Police presence on 6th Street, active crime scene

Maybe related to a call earlier this morning I heard at the Great Goods gas station on 5th Street in Eureka. A woman burst into the gas station asking for an ambulance to be called for someone having a seizure. The gas station staff called 911 right away but did not see anyone in the alley.

One subject transported to hospital.

12:15 : A guy's hands were just fingerprinted and photographed by Det. Ron Harpham. The guy spoke with Det. Harpham. Not going to print physical description, yet.

I just gave some information to Det. Harpham about last night and it was coming from the alley behind the apartment complex. I am not going to post details. I live close by. There are constantly tweakers and bums hanging out in the alley. Remember my post about the sharpie container on top of the PG & E meters?

Three police cars, four police officers, Det Harpham, Det. Bise,Det. Corrie Watson  and one evidence tech on scene.

The alley being searched is behind The Shadows apartment complex which is 1335 6th Street Eureka and near the Riverwalk Vape Shop. Alleys between O and N from 5th to 6th Street are blocked off.

12:38: Evidence is being placed in black trash bags and in a vehicle belonging to law enforcement.

1:02 p.m.: Detectives and one evidence tech are in the alley between N and O behind the gas station.

1:30. Detective Harpham and Watson are canvassing the neighborhood.

Right now detectives and EPD cannot talk to media. This is active crime scene.

 EPD Press Release (9 p.m.):

On November 02, 2019 at approximately 9:00 a.m. Humboldt Bay Fire and City Ambulance were dispatched to the alley in the 500 block of “O” Street on a report of a female suffering from an unknown medical condition.  Upon their arrival it was determined the female needed emergency medical services and was transported to St. Joseph Hospital.

Due to the suspicious circumstances surrounding the female’s condition Humboldt Bay Fire contacted the Eureka Police Department and requested their assistance.  Officers responded to the scene and secured the alley.  EPD Detectives, along with an Evidence Technician, responded to the scene, as well as the hospital, and initiated an investigation.

This investigation is fluid and still in its early stages.  Detectives are actively working to gather information.  Additional information will be released as appropriate.  Anyone who has information about this incident should contact Detective Corrie Watson at 707-441-4032 or cwatson@ci.eureka.ca.gov .
