$75,000 bail for kidnapping suspect
On 11-22-2019 at about 3:34 am, The Eureka Police Department communications center received 2nd hand information that a female subject was being held against her will by her boyfriend, identified as Chai Lia Her (37 years old).
The caller further explained that the victim had called her and was told that Her would not let her out of his vehicle and was driving around Eureka. Her’s vehicle was only described as a gray truck. A records check revealed a possible license plate for the vehicle. Officers began searching for the vehicle.
At about 4:15 am, the victim phoned 911 and she could be heard stating repeatedly to be taken home.
At about 4:33 am, officers located Her’s vehicle traveling southbound on Fairway Drive. Officers attempted a high risk traffic stop on the vehicle on Herrick Ave, but the vehicle fled and a pursuit was initiated. The vehicle continued northbound onto Hwy 101 and into the city limits. The vehicle ultimately stopped on Glen Street at Harris Avenue. Her was detained without further incident. The victim was located uninjured in the passenger seat of the vehicle.
As a result of the investigation, Her was taken into custody for kidnapping and evading. He was booked into the Humboldt County Correctional Facility and is being held on $75,000 bail.
