"Controlled chaos" is how Deputy Coroner Jamie Barney described the crime scene outside the Smith residence

Deputy Coroner Jamie Barney wrapped his testimony this morning. Both direct and cross examination was brief.



He identified some photos that related to his testimony yesterday. Only one photo was shown to the jury. Rest admitted into evidence.

When asked to describe the scene at Rohnerville Road by Deputy District Attorney Luke Bernthal, Mr. Barney responded, "Controlled chaos."

Mr. Barney was very solid witness. While there was some information garnered on cross, it did not in any way affect his credibility or testimony.

There was a loose bullet found in the body bag after x rays were taken of Tim Smith''s body.

During cross examination,  he did say that Jessica Springer told him that she heard two shots, a pause and then many shots.

The Fortuna Police Department could take notes on how to document evidence and testify from Deputy Barney.
