Judge Kaleb Cockrum to be sworn in this Friday

Already been reported before but here is the official press release on Judge Kaleb Cockrum:



Governor Jerry Brown appointed Kaleb V. Cockrum as Superior Court Judge, County of Humboldt, on February 27, 2018. Mr. Cockrum fills the vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Marilyn B. Miles in July 2017.  Mr. Cockrum will be sworn in on March 16, 2018.

Kaleb V. Cockrum, 43, of Eureka, has served as interim public defender at the Humboldt County Public Defender’s Office since 2018. He served as supervising attorney in the Humboldt County Conflict Counsel’s Office in 2017, where he was a deputy public defender from 2004 to 2017. Cockrum earned a Juris Doctor degree from the University of California, Davis School of Law and a Bachelor of Science degree from Andrews University.


Presiding Judge Joyce Hinrichs stated, “I am pleased to be welcoming Mr. Cockrum to the Humboldt County Bench.  He has a reputation as being hard-working and professional, and we are looking forward to him joining us.”


“It is an honor and I am humbled by the appointment,” said Kaleb Cockrum. “I look forward to serving the people of Humboldt County. I have great respect for the judicial office. Decisions from the bench have real consequences in peoples’ lives, therefore I will perform my duties with fairness, compassion, and integrity.”
