Bail reduction does not help if you can't bail out

A hearing on the defense motion to continue the James Merrick jury trial was on this morning at 8:30 a.m. Merrick is still in custody, despite a reduction in bail.
It has yet to be called because Courtroom 2  had some issues this morning moving the calendar along with attorneys having to be in different courtrooms.

Visiting Judge Doris Shockley's granted the defense request for a continuance. Next court date is April 9 at 8:30 a.m.

Merrick is charged with five felonies. Count 1 Murder. Count 2 Gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated. Count 3 DUI causing injury with prior conviction (2015). Count 4 DUI with blood alcohol 0.08% causing injury. Count 5 Hit and run resulting in serious injury or death.

Deputy District Attorney Brent Kling is prosecuting the case. Conflict Counsel Supervising Attorney Meagan O'Connell is representing Merrick.
