How many attempted arson, stalker, suspicious circumstances EPD calls you never hear about get quick response by EPD but dont make headlines?

 

Yesterday, shortly before 10 a.m., the very last EPD patrol car was leaving Recetki Park, the mobile home park located on Third Street between U and V. There were other EPD officers who responded earlier. 

EPD had a very busy day yesterday and so did I. Among the many calls EPD responded to yesterday were several court violation orders. The following information is not from EPD but other sources who told me that allegedly an ex was stalking a female tenant in Recetki Park, there was attempted arson and a gas can involved. 

Brandon Shorey held to answer on forcible rape, forcible oral copulation and domestic violence charges

 

Forcible rape and domestic violence suspect Brandon Shorey's preliminary hearing scheduled for 11/14 was continued to 11/16 because his assigned Deputy Public Defender David Nims was ill. Deputy Public Defender Casey Russo asked for the continuance. Deputy District Attorney Luke Bernthal appeared on the case for the People and was the prosecutor for the preliminary hearing. 

Ryan Doucet faces 14 years, 8 months in prison after jury finds him guilty of child endangerment, possession of fentanyl and several other charges

 

The DA just issued a press release on a verdict for Ryan Doucet.

Reported last month, now it is official who Sequoia Park Zoo Foundation choose as their new Executive Director

 

Last month I reported that Sequoia Park Zoo Foundation got over 30 applicants intetested in the Executive Director position. While I knew who their top choice was, I waited until it was official. Today, a press release was issued confirming local business owner, non-profit executive and community organizer Alegria Sita as the new  Executive Director. 

DA dismisses homicide case against Matthew Susmilch

 

Yesterday, at trial confirmation, the DA dismissed the homicide case against Matthew Gabriel Susmilch. He was ordered released from custody.

Rape, kidnap charges dismissed; convicted felon resolves case for 9 year prison sentence

 

On Oct 31, I reported that right before convicted felon, kidnapping and rape suspect Shannon Campbell's jury trial was scheduled to start, Deputy District Attorney Luke Bernthal said the people intend to dismiss and refile. There was a first amended information filed and the difference in charges was that a strike was added to Campbell's charges. The 2022 case was dismissed. Campbell was arraigned on the 2023 case.

Brian D. Roberts has filed Form 501 and Form 470 and plans to run against Second District Supervisor Michelle Bushnell in the March 5, 2024 election.

County offices closed 2 days next week, courts also closed for Thanksgiving holiday

 

Both County and Courts are closed two days next week. They are definitely closed on Thansgiving.  Since I initially did the post, online information now states both the County and Courts are also closed on Friday.

I had reported previously about Northwest Wholesale Motor Sales owner Jolian Kanges running against U.Rep Jared Huffman. Today, he issued a press release. Kanges has submitted signatures in lieu to be verified.

The other challenger is Jason Brisendine. As of this morning, he said he plans to pay the filing fee and submit his nomination papers by the December 8 deadline; could be sooner.

Both are running as independent candidates calling out the Democrats and Republicans.

Humboldt Exotics sue farm supervisor in workplace harassment case

This afternoon there was a hearing on a request for order for workplace harassment filed by Humboldt Exotics LLC vs Jeremy Daniel Rearick. One of Humboldt Exotics co-owners Manuel Meras has filed a separate case against Rearick. 

According to his Linkedin profile, Rearick is the Farm Supervisor for Humboldt Exotics. It is the only job listed on that profile. 

Another Humboldt Exotics co-owner is Lloyd Julien. He testified at the preliminary hearing in former Building and Planning employee Patrick McTigue's case.

If you read my blog regularly, you know the District Attorney's office disqualifies Assistant Presiding Judge Kelly Neel often. I have posted court minutes and written about how this worsens the already impacted court schedule.

Gerald McGuire is the only candidate for the three Humboldt Supervisor positions in the 2024 election to have paid his filing fee and take out nomination papers. 

Too bad it is the Fields Landing resident whose development permit was revoked by the Board of Supervisors. McGuire also lost an 2019 appeal about a judgment "dismissing his wrongful foreclosure action against Bob Lawton, Steven Sellers and Paul Byrer (Lenders) because he failed to bring his case to trial within five years after the action was commenced."

McGuire's name comes up in several cases in the local court system; there are two relevant to the County. One from 2016 against the Building Code Enforcement Unit which was dismissed due to lack of prosecution. One open case from 2023, a writ of mandate, in which he is represented by Mr. Michael Acosta. The next court date for that cade is 1/19/24.

The other challenger to First District Supervisor Rex Bohn is Gordon Clatworthy. Registrar of Voters and Clerk Recorder Juan Cervantes told me that Third District Supervisor Mike Wilson, Second District Supervisor Michelle Bushnell and Clatworthy have taken out paperwork for signatures in lieu but not submitted them. Rex, Gordon and Gerald have filed the 501 form. 

Eagle House employee, former Bicoastal DJ and almost Eureka City Council candidate arrested for being drunk in public

 

37 year old Talvikki Liisa Fried was arrested by EPD yesterday for PC 647 (f) public intoxication. You may know her as Talvi Fried, the woman who was an almost challenger to former Councilmember Marian Brady but botched her filing process in 2014. She was released on O.R. Her employment history on Linkedin lists her as a current employee at Eagle House. Fried was arrested in Old Town and it wasn't at the Eagle House. 

Just like Mark McKenna DUI conviction , you won't see anything written about Talvi's arrest in the rest of the local media. Just like you never read about the lawsuit against Savage Henry and anticipated bankruptcy. 

Lifetime sex offender registration for Benjamin Pesch and "he cannot wipe this off his record"

 

Alleged molestor Benjamin Pesch entered a conditional plea on November 7. He pleaded guilty  PC 288 (c) (1) with execution of sentence suspended. As I reported last time, Pesch had to agree to this to resolve his case because this means "he cannot wipe this off his record." He also had to agree  to lifetime sex offender registration to resolve his case. 

Civil jury finds Dr. Erik Jannson not negligent in his diagnosis, care and treatment of Alison Nichols

 

On 11/8 motion for directed verdict was denied. On 11/9, jury reached a verdict that Dr. Erik Jannson not negligent in his diagnosis, care and treatment of Alison Nichols.

I took these photos at 7:22 a.m. EPD Officer Andrew Endsley is parked in front of the Townhouse motel office entrance and was on the radio. The other officer was driving around the motel looking for someone.

EPD Crime Analyst Katie Hill told me, "The incident was not at the Townhouse.  There was a report of a subject causing a disturbance with a bat that left the Chevron on foot and officers were looking for him.  They ultimately located John Johnson and he was arrested."
