Aunna Bollman booked into jail again for criminal threats, violating a court order and resisting arrest
Aunna Sophia Bollman was arrested again yesterday by Fortuna Police Department on a Ramey warrant for PC 422 criminal threats, PC 148(a)(1) resisting arrest and PC 166(c)(1) violating a court order. She posted bond.
I emailed both Fortuna Police Chief Casey Day and Humboldt Deputy Counsel Thomas Chapin.
Mr.Chapin responded right away, "I believe it was for violation of the Civil Harassment restraining order. Threatening Supervisor Arroyo. She may also have violated Fortuna’s RO but I have no information on that."
Chief Day is out of town for training at the FBI National Academy in Virginia but he got back to me and I forwarded my request to Lt. Matt Eberhardt. He never responded. I contacted Chief Day again on 2/15.
She already has two civil restraining orders granted against her, one requested from the County of Humboldt and one from the City of Fortuna. She has two criminal cases pending. Trial setting in the two criminal cases was continued to 2/28 because defense intends to file motion for mental health diversion.
I am the only one who regularly covered her court hearings and 4 cases. You can access those details via the links provided in this post.

HCSO loses another deputy, more deputies leaving, courtroom short staffing continues to sink faster than the Titanic
HCSO Deputy Rogers went to Bakersfield. More deputies will be retiring or leaving for better opportunities. I have previously and recently written about HCSO deputies and correctional deputies leaving, why and where. This was before the recent BOS meeting where Sheriff William Honsal asked for the hiring freeze exception.
Today at the courthouse. Courtroom 4 nothing on the calendar. Courtroom 3 nothing on calendar. So two courtrooms down. No one in the information window on the second floor for weeks. I go to check cases multiple times, minutes aren't done due to shortage of court staff doing covering multiple courtrooms. Continuances after continuances due to courtroom unavalability. I have written about court staffing shortage numerous times.
This short staffing where people are leaving 825 Fifth Street by the droves and the crisis worsening faster than the sinking Titanic are during the time Judge Gregory Kreis has been in charge who is on the ballot on March 5, 2024. Others in charge include incumbent good ole boy First District Supervisor Rex Bohn, one of Kreis' endorsers. Rex likes to brag about his connections and power. Second District Supervisor Michelle Bushnell is another incumbent who touts proven results? For her and a select few of her chosen ones? Bohn and Bushnell couldn't even get the BOS to approve the 35 positions Sheriff William Honsal asked for which are only a bandaid. Roads can't be fixed and public safety positions can't be funded but Rex and Bushnell were fine with $1 million for a temporary fix of the fairgrounds because their cronies asked.

APD investigating anti-semitic incident at Mad River Hospital as hate crime
On Friday February 2, 2024, the Arcata Police Department responded to Mad River Community Hospital for a complaint of an anti-Semitic poster in a bathroom. The message consisted of "Butcher Zionist Pigs" and depicted a hooded executioner holding an axe next to a pig wearing a tuxedo.
What the HCSO press release issued today fails to mention is that Ronald Payton is a frequent name on the jail booking log
What the HCSO press release issued today fails to mention is that Ronald Payton is a frequent name on the jail booking log.
The post I did about his arrest last June for criminal threats, assault, aggravated battery, damaging communication device with intent to prevent person getting help and domestic violence has his record from Humboldt Superior Court.

Rex claims Sups forum on KEET rescheduled because of Gordon's unavalability
Good ole boys and gals come through for their guy Rex, Wilson gets $1,500 from Sacramento PAC
James Morrison is one common name listed under contributors on election paperwork filed by First District Supervisor Rex Bohn, Second District Supervisor Michelle Bushnell and Judge Gregory Kreis. On two of those forms, occupation is listed as attorney and on one retired. You will recognize a lot of the good ole boy and gals donors on Rex's 460 form including businesses and media.
Rex has been using the term good ole boy recently on his Facebook page in reference to himself and his buddies and supporters so they shouldn't mind the term. I have been using it for a while. More than Rex though, I like it better when it used in tips sent to me and online comments. People who read information on my blog as well other media sources use it and other information on my blog regardless of where they may mention it online. Some credit; some don't. As long as they are reading information from various sources is all that matters. The people's choices are different from those the good ole boys chose and support. I prefer to be the people's choice.
Absent from the list of donors for the 2024 local primary election paperwork are certain names such as the Arkleys, McBeths, Ulanseys and others. That either means they did not donate or donated under the required amount of $99 or less which allows donors to stay anonymous and is not required to be reported. Donations and gifts under $100 including $99 or less from 4 or 5 members from one family is a nice chunk of money. And that does happen and has happened in local campaigns.

Pamela Van Koek's body located in the Eel River near Dean Creek
Search and rescue teams have located Pamela Van Koek, deceased, at approximately 1215 hours.
SAR personnel utilized a U.A.V. which located Pamela in the Eel River near Dean Creek. The Southern Humboldt Technical Rescue Team was deployed to recover her body. This was a large-scale SAR that involved multiple local agencies and agencies from outside the area.
Locally owned, this eatery has increased their menu and customer base in two months by good food, excellent customer service and adding options based on feedback from their regulars
Last November and December, I wrote about Aroma's Cafe located on 1651 Myrtle Avenue. I spoke with co-owners Marisol who is from Mckinleyville and Adela who is from Hydesville. Marisol has been in the area for 20 years, has experience in the coffee and restaurant business and runs front of house while Adela does all the cooking. They prepare the food as you order and even the grab and go items are made on the premise and have an authentic homemade taste.
They have added more options since they did their soft opening in December such as spicy soft potato tacos and a peanut butter, banana and honey bagel. If you have a more traditional palate, minestrone or other freshly made soup, a Cobb or Caprese salad, BLT or biscuits and gravy are among the staples. They have more than one vegetarian option with bagels, crepes and entrees. Responding to requests from customers, they have applied for a beer and wine license.
Coffee from Humboldt Bay, grab and go items include fresh tarts, cookies, salads, soup, sandwiches, crepes with savory options such as chorizo and potatoes and homemade items such as tamales, burritos and chilaquiles with several items priced from $4 or 5, $10 and a few $15. Aroma's is open from 7 to 3 Monday through Saturday and 7:30 to 3 on Sundays.
The business is locally owned, they have increased their customer base by word of mouth, good food and excellent customer service. They added more items after their soft opening which I think is a smart move for any new business, especially in food.
For more information, email at Aromascafe2you@gmail.com or call (707) 798-1612.

This Tuesday's BOS meeting lists a letter of appreciation thanking Landry for his service on the Humboldt Planning Commission. Cavorting with public defenders, defiant and unremoresful despite a misconduct complaint from a judicial commission?
"A Las Vegas judge is facing ethics charges partly for a social media photo of herself sporting a bikini while in a hot tub with public defenders."
"Clark County, Nevada, Judge Erika Ballou is facing a Jan. 24 misconduct complaint filed by the Nevada Commission on Judicial Discipline. The document cites the hot tub post as well as a second post complaining about an early court calendar."
"The hot tub post used a slang word for breasts, while the second post used an expletive in a hashtag."
"The misconduct complaint has specifics on the social media posts:
• In April 2022, Ballou posted on Facebook a photo of herself in a hot tub with two public defenders—one man and one woman. Referring to the male public defender, Ballou said he was “surrounded by great tits.”
• While attending the Life is Beautiful music festival in September 2021, Ballou posted on Instagram: “Life is STILL beautiful, despite the fact that Billie Eilish doesn’t START for 30 minutes and I have a 8:30 calendar tomorrow.” The Instagram post carried the hashtag #VacateTheShitOuttaOutofCustodyCases.
"Ballou apparently responded to the controversy last weekend in a Facebook post that quoted lyrics from rapper Cardi B, according to KLAS."
“Went from makin’ tuna sandwiches to makin’ the news,” Ballou posted. “I started speakin’ my mind and tripled my views.”
"The misconduct complaint alleges that both posts violate ethics rules requiring judges to act in a way that promotes public confidence in the judiciary; requiring them to comply with the law, including the judicial ethics code; and providing that judges participating in extracurricular activities should not act in a way that appears to undermine their independence and integrity."
"The hot tub post also violates ethics rules banning judges from conveying the impression that others are in a position to influence them, the ethics complaint alleges. And the Billie Eilish post also violates ethics rules requiring judicial duties to take precedence over personal activities, according to the complaint."
"Ballou became a district judge in January 2021. She was previously criticized for telling a Black defendant accused of battery against a police officer that he should stay away from officers."
“You know you don’t want to be nowhere where cops are ’cause I know I don’t, and I’m a middle-aged, middle-class Black woman,” she said. “I don’t want to be around where the cops are because I don’t know if I’m going to walk away alive or not.”
Ballou had explained that she supports law enforcement, but she tries to communicate with defendants “in a manner that is straightforward and understandable.”
"Ballou did not immediately respond to an ABA Journal voicemail and email seeking comment. She also did not reply to requests for comment from publications covering the ethics charges."
All this above are excerpsts from an article by the American Bar Journal.
The yahoo link also has coverage and more information. I chose the above excerpts and photos from the American Bar Journal. You can read the entire complaint via links or going to Nevada Commission on Judicial Discipline.
Law and Crime, New York Post and The Las Vegas Review Journal are some of the other media who covered the scandal.

Not shocked convicted molestor Darrel Tatro was arrested for probation violation and failing to register as a sex offender
Convicted molestor Darrel Tatro who pleaded guilty to distributing or showing porn to a minor and meeting a minor for lewd purposes and was sentenced last October is back in custody.
He should never had execution of his sentence suspended and he should have served jail time. He will face no consequences for this arrest and be let out on the streets again because that has been the track record for Humboldt Superior Court judges with those who get arrested for failure to register as a sex offender.
Tatro was arrested by Eureka Police Department yesterday for PC 1203.2 (a) probation violation and PC 290.018 (b) failure to register as a sex offender.
