HCSO loses another deputy, more deputies leaving, courtroom short staffing continues to sink faster than the Titanic

HCSO Deputy Rogers went to Bakersfield. More deputies will be retiring or leaving for better opportunities. I have previously and recently written about HCSO deputies and correctional deputies leaving, why and where. This was before the recent BOS meeting where Sheriff William Honsal asked for the hiring freeze exception.

Today at the courthouse. Courtroom 4 nothing on the calendar. Courtroom 3 nothing on calendar. So two courtrooms down. No one in the information window on the second floor for weeks. I go to check cases multiple times, minutes aren't done due to shortage of court staff doing covering multiple courtrooms. Continuances after continuances due to courtroom unavalability. I have written about court staffing shortage numerous times.

This short staffing where people are leaving 825 Fifth Street by the droves and the crisis worsening faster than the sinking Titanic are during the time Judge Gregory Kreis has been in charge who is on the ballot on March 5, 2024.  Others in charge include incumbent good ole boy First District Supervisor Rex Bohn, one of Kreis' endorsers. Rex likes to brag about his connections and power. Second District Supervisor Michelle Bushnell is another incumbent who touts proven results? For her and a select few of her chosen ones? Bohn and Bushnell couldn't even get the BOS to approve the 35 positions Sheriff William Honsal asked for which are only a bandaid. Roads can't be fixed and public safety positions can't be funded but Rex and Bushnell were fine with $1 million for a temporary fix of the fairgrounds because their cronies asked.

Housing, healthcare, better pay is affecting private and public sector retaining experienced and quality employees.

Next time, a criminal victimizes you and you go to court for multiple continuances hearing after hearing for months or years; next time you call HCSO dispatch when a criminal is threatening your safety and you have to wait; make sure you direct your anger and frustration at those who support, fund, endorse and vote for ineffective, arrogant people who should not be in charge. In private industry, Kreis, Bohn and others like with disastrous productivity and results would be fired. In Humboldt, they get to collect a gigantic paycheck that taxpayers fund. I don't hear local conservatives whining about subsidizing career goverment incompetence.

You as a voter, a taxpayer, a Humboldt resident need to hold the people in charge accountable. If you are a part of continuing the status quo; you can't blame anyone but yourself. They can only take your vote, your support for granted if you allow them. Don't email me to complain if you cannot be a part of the change Humboldt needs. I have done more than my part for years.

Someone posted this on Reddit the morning of 2/7.
