Convicted felon and attempted murder suspect James Atkins finally had his preliminary hearing proceed on February 8. Judge Steven Steward issued his ruling on February 9. Atkins was also charged with possession of fentanyl and firearm charges.
In September 2023, the Public Defender's office declared conflict. In October 2023, Ms. Andrea Sullivan was appointed to represent Atkins. Deputy District Attorney Roger Rees is the prosecutor for the preliminary hearing.
On 2/8, Mr. Rees made corrections regarding Counts 8 and 9. Judge Steward held Atkins to answer to all counts except Count 6. Arraignment on information is on 2/23.
