For months and years I was the only one who reported Judge Gregory Kreis was being investigated by the Commission on Judicial Performance. This was just posted on the CJP website. I first reported this in May 2020.
"To Gregory J. Kreis, a judge of the Humboldt County Superior Court from June 2017 to the present: Preliminary investigation pursuant to Rules of the Commission on Judicial Performance, rules 109 and 111, having been made, the Commission on Judicial Performance has concluded that formal proceedings should be instituted to inquire into the charges specified against you herein. By the following allegations, you are charged with willful misconduct in office, conduct prejudicial to the administration of justice that brings the judicial office into disrepute, and improper action within the meaning of article VI, section 18 of the California Constitution providing for removal, censure, or public or private admonishment of a judge or former judge. " CJP complaint page 1.
I added some of the 34 pages of the charges which contains 19 counts. You can go directly to the CJP website and read the entire document.

I contacted Humboldt Superior Court CEO Meara Hattan. I asked her is Humboldt Superior Court going to release a statement? Given this announcement are there any changes to judicial assignments?
Ms. Hattan responded, "Hi John- this is a pending matter beyond the scope of the court, therefore the court has nothing to say or add. Thank you."
I contacted the CJP. I heard back from CJP's Sonya Smith. The CJP can answer procedural questions. Judge Kreis' reply and any filings will be posted on the website.
After the answer, a hearing will be conducted. If Kreis choses to fight this and it goes to trial like Lassen County Judge Tony Mallery, where these proceedings will be held is yet to be determined.
The Kalin incident is mentioned, specific court cases are mentioned and now the CJP has written what I reported before this CJP disclosure that Kreis is in an intimate relationship with the court's family law facilitator. The CJP writes about a specific incident at the AA Bar and Grill. Those who regularly read my posts remember what I wrote.i couldnt mention the specific place earlier to protect the investigation but I repeatedly mentioned they were seen in public. I was the only one to report that court clerk Lois Casacca was fired for telling the truth. Kreis used his position to silence the truth and retaliate against an experienced, longtime court employee who was excellent at her job.
Kreis and his boo have been spotted at other places. I could include more details of what I know but I will not because Kreis and his attorney and hi cohorts can find out in further filings or when they cannot use or intimidate anyone else into silence.
Again, I did not put her name in my blog for her protection but everyone in the courthouse knew. From Kreis, to Kim Bartleson, to Mr. Patrik Griego's involvement in getting rid of former Public Defender David Marcus, I have reported on all these issues in Humboldt Superior Court and Humboldt County.
Kreis' lawyer Mr. Griego was dismissive about the alleged cocaine usage in court that I reported on with court documents and depositions. I was in the courtroom when he said that to Mendocino Judge Ann Moorman. Now it is in the CJP complaint.

I reported about the AA Kamada remark on April 2 2021.
"Deputy Public Defender Adrian Kamada often needs to be called out repeatedly to get his attention to appear in court via Zoom. Today, after trying to get his attention at least three times, finally one of his colleagues had to alert him.
"Are you back from the AA yet?" joked Judge Elvine-Kreis. Later on, addressing Mr. Kamada again, Judge Elvine-Kreis said something like "There cannot be too many bald heads in this room" or "There can only be only so many bald heads in this room." -From my April 2021 post.

C. On or about April 2, 2021, when DPD Adrian Kamada appeared during a Zoom appearance after you had tried and failed to get his attention, you joked, "Are you back from the AA yet?" or words to that effect. "AA" was a reference to the AA Bar & Grill, which is located near the courthouse. Your reference to the "AA" was intended to falsely imply that DPD Kamada was late to the court session because he had been drinking alcohol during working hours. Your comment violated the Code of Judicial Ethics, canons 1, 2, 2A, 38(4), and 3B(S). -CJP complaint.
I reported on Kreis and the Ben Erickson case.

The Commission on Judicial Performance has instituted formal proceedings to inquire into matters concerning Judge Gregory J. Kreis of the Superior Court of California, County of Humboldt.
The commencement of formal proceedings is not a determination of judicial misconduct. A copy of the Notice of Formal Proceedings is posted on the commission’s website at https://cjp.ca.gov (under “Announcements”). Judge Kreis’s Answer to the Notice is due February 22, 2024. Upon filing, the judge’s answer will be made available for public inspection. In accordance with the rules that govern commission proceedings, a hearing will be conducted by special masters appointed by the Supreme Court. At the hearing, the parties will have an opportunity to introduce evidence and examine and cross-examine witnesses. Commission Trial Counsel Mark A. Lizarraga and Assistant Trial Counsel Gregory Cleaver will serve as Examiners for the commission. Judge Kreis is represented by Attorney James A. Murphy of San Francisco.
Following completion of the hearing, the special masters will provide the commission with a report containing findings with respect to the charges. The parties will have an opportunity to present their views on the report to the commission through briefing and argument. If the commission determines that the charges are proven by clear and convincing evidence, it is empowered to remove, censure, publicly admonish, or privately discipline the judge. Charges that the commission determines are not proven will be dismissed. A determination by the commission to remove, censure, or admonish a judge is subject to discretionary review by the Supreme Court upon petition by the judge. * * * The commission is composed of six public members, three judges, and two lawyers. The chairperson is Dr. Michael A. Moodian. For further information about the Commission on Judicial Performance, see the commission’s website at https://cjp.ca.gov.
