Alleged molestor who told a 12 year old he wanted to "caress your hot body" held to answer on 10 out of 11 charges

 


After several continuances in his 2021 case, alleged molestor Manuel Garcia Avalos finally had his preliminary hearing on 2/26 which was continued for the second day on 2/27. There are three alleged victims. Two Jane Does, DA Investigator Ryan Hill and officers from multiple law enforcement agencies testified.

Retired Judge John Feeney held Avalos to answer to 10 counts and a special allegation. No holding order for Count 6.  Deputy District Attorney Whitney Timm is the prosecutor for the case. Deputy Public Defender Wade Orbelian is Avalos' attorney.  Arraignment on information is on 3/12.






3/12: Arraigned on information. DA adds more charges for jury trial. Trial confirmation on 7/30; jury trial on 8/12.
















7/30: Trial confirmation continued defense by defense to 8/1. Judge Kaleb Cockrum asked People and defense to inform the court if any witnesses need interpreters.

8/1: Defense motion to continue granted. 8/12 date vacated. Trial setting on 10/3. DA tells court People have no witnesses requiring interpreters.

10/3: Readiness conference on 2/4/25; jury trial on 2/18/25 . Time estimate is 4 weeks.
