The Jeff Tsarnas jury trial seems to be cursed with delay after delay

Friday was a dark day in the Jeff Tsarnas jury trial because his attorney, Deputy Conflict Counsel April Van Dyke, was ill. She did return this morning. Today, court is only supposed to be in session for half a day.

From 8:30 to 8:51 nothing seemed to be happening. Judge Timothy Canning spoke with attorneys at the bench.

However, jury selection was delayed until after 9 because two jurors were running late. One juror called to say that it would be 20 minutes until that juror could arrive. Judge Canning told jurors that court would resume at 9:05 a.m. At 9:08 a.m. the other juror was 10 to 15 minutes away, so now court is expected to reconvene at 9:20 a.m. Jury selection resumed closer to 9:30 a.m.

So when does the two week estimate start with delay after delay?

Deputy District Attorney Roger Rees is the prosecutor for the case. This morning Deputy DA Steven Steward is second chair and was present in the courtroom.

Previously, the alleged victim could not be located. The last time the jury trial got continued after pre trial motions.
