Humboldt emergency order to extend jury trials for another 30 days granted by California Chief Justice

As I reported previously, Humboldt requested and was granted another emergency order to extend jury trials for 30 days. The CA Chief Justice signed it, it came in today, while Presiding Judge Joyce Hinrichs "was on the bench" and she has to do the implementation order.

I did cover the motion to dismiss in the Timothy Ziegler trial. Trial assignment is on April 2; jury trial is on April 5.

There was discussion about Judge's being disqualified which Deputy Public Defender Ben McLaughlin said was moot. Deputy District Attorney Roger Rees who is currently in another trial, took time out of his lunch hour, to be there at this hearing.

Judge Hinrichs made brief remarks about what they thought they could handle "en masse", 58 different independent Courts in California and the authority of the California Chief Justice and emergency orders. Information on the The California Chief Justice, emergency orders and California Judicial Council has been covered in previous coverage.
