On October 28th, 2017, at around 1:00 A.M. Special Agents with the Humboldt County Drug Task Force spotted a vehicle traveling northbound on Hwy 101 near Stafford. Agents recognized the vehicle as belonging to 25 year old Jose Trujillo.
Special Agents had been granted a search warrant for Trujillo, his vehicle and a hotel room he rented in the city of Fortuna.
With the assistance of a Humboldt County Sheriff’s Deputy a traffic enforcement stop was conducted on Trujillo and his vehicle.
Also located in the vehicle at the time of the stop was 37 year old Ricardo Avalos. Both men were detained and searched pursuant to the search warrant.
A Humboldt County District Attorney Investigator and his narcotics detection K-9 assisted in searching the vehicle which yielded approximately Ľ pound of suspected methamphetamine.
Both Trujillo and Avalos were placed under arrest for transportation of a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance for sale.
Special Agents responded to Trujillo’s motel room which was located in the 500 block of South Fortuna Blvd. in Fortuna and conducted a search. No additional narcotics were located, however they did locate a digital scale, packaging materials, and other items associated with the sales of narcotics.
While being transported to the jail, Avalos suffered a medical emergency and was transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital where he was cited and released to hospital staff. Trujillo was transported to the jail where he was booked and housed for the above listed charges.
