Maybe a lawsuit when people get sick or pricked by a needle or these photos ending up in a national news show would get Eureka City Council's attention?

As City Manager Greg Sparks makes his recommendations and Eureka City Council members vote on city surplus money going towards pensions instead of street maintenance or road repairs, here are a few more images from Old Town and Dowtown Eureka that they can enjoy.

The leaves, the inches of dirt, weeds,  the mud, feces are just so "inviting" aren't they?
Along with the City staff and Council, their supporters, the businesses who have the time and money to speak out and the Councilmembers funders and their cronies, should also share in their legacy.

This present City Council made up of a majority of progressive City Councilmembers has demonstrated so well how the City of Eureka is taking care of its citizens, its businesses and just "wowing tourists". Environmental groups clearly think this is okay; where are they demanding or doing any cleanup?

All those anon whiners with facebook pages, you too should share in the City's "success". All you do is complain, never show your face at a City Council meeting and let a few others like me take the personal and financial risk for speaking out.

Anon trolls, anon blogs and pages, anon conservatives, anon liberals aka spineless, selfish cowards. Either get off your duff and start speaking up and thinking of someone other than yourself and start using your real name or take your whine, opinion and comment to the trash bin where it belongs.

Now this is the kind of "investigative reporting" and tough questions Eureka citizens see Hank Sims, Ryan Burns and Thad Greenson and Brian Papstein ask the Councilmembers all the time. Oops, my mistake, I meant to say, they are too busy "sucking up" and pretending to be the "media" because truth does not pay well.

  1. Hey John, was this a vote on further pension benefits, or to cover previously-approved (and un- or underfunded) pensions?

    1. Bones, KIEM reported on it, this is part of the information from their website:
"City of Eureka looks to secure its financial future in the face of rising pension costs.
City Manager Greg Sparks said the 2016-17 fiscal year exceeded projections leading to a boon of $2 million.
While that money could go towards road repairs or facilities maintenance, council will instead deposit the surplus into a pension reserve account.
Sparks said that increases the chance that the city can absorb what is expected to be a more than $3 million increase in pension costs over the next four years.
“What that allows us to do is to not have to reduce services to the public because we won’t be laying off employees and not be able to do the work,” Sparks said."

    2. I agree. However, leaves, weeds, feces (and needles not shown in this post) are visible and obvious and cannot be swept away under the rug so easily. These are big issues. They are health issues, safety issues, environmental issues. All the above mentioned should be ashamed to collect any salary, income, stipend for their incompetence, lack of action and lack of shame. Pigs are cleaner than the streets of Eureka. Senator Mike McGuire is here often. He likes the Fifth Street Starbucks. The area around looks like this, so what action has he taken to hold The County and City of Eureka accountable?

  7. I just love trees. Eureka embraces vegetation and trees everywhere to beautify the ugliness close by. Trees are great for the hot summer days-they spew pitch on the parked cars below. Super!!! Then come fall all the leaves drop and blow around like little tornados ending up in entryways and on sidewalks and inside businesses. Just love that community effort to sweep up and make nice and tidy. Opps forgot-that doesn't exist in liberal Eureka. So sorry for laziness. The leaves will decay, the poop will decay, the needles will get reused(?) yuk. Oh I forgot again-the council has free needles for all the junkies to help not spread disease.Ha Ha Ha! That's precious!
Retirement is the monster to address and pers sucks so there is a hugh deficit coming Eureka's way. All other leaves and poop and lay there and decay and blow away as dirty dust. Long live liberalism

  8. City of Los Angeles is considering a program where homeless would be paid for cleaning things up...
    https://mynewsla.com/government/2017/11/01/hope-for-homeless-will-they-work-cleaning-streets/
"Daily litter maintenance should be outsourced to social justice organizations that could recruit and hire homeless people to clean up trash"
Of course the ACLU or other such org. might protest that it would be demeaning work and would not help them with their rehabilitation.

On the other hand, in San Diego, there's a epidemic of Hepatitis A among the homeless drug users and while port potties have stages to control the feces problem, it's s big risk. During a scuffle where a homeless person was assaulting another, an officer was injured. Due to the area, he was tested and found he had been exposed to the 'A' virus and will have to be treated. The PD is asking for all active officers to be vaccinated against the virus. Makes sense to me.

    https://www.cdc.gov/hepatitis/populations/idu.htm

Is anyone in Humboldt even aware of the dangers of hepatitis and injected drug use?
At what point is someone who is a carrier of any of the hepatitis viruses NOT a threat to society?

  9. Paying the addicts "homeless" to clean things up? The truly homeless are not the problem. The truly homeless are seeking and getting help, are getting housing, are making their lives better. The gal that was homeless with the dog named sugar in Eureka clawed her way to be housed by way of the help that's available to all. The way she did it? She's not a drug addict or Tobacco addicted ie: Money for RENT! not ADDICTIONS!
Paying the Addicts to clean up ? News flash they don't fucking care, they're addicts, addicts only care about getting high.
The truly homeless are not creating the problems. DHHS IS! Paying the homeless to clean things up? Get rid of the entitlement programs that enable the attics to lay around and make a mess 24/7. Stop the flow of illegal drugs over our borders into our neighborhoods ruining families every minute of every day. Stop the brainwashing that addiction is a sickness, addiction is addiction, a weakness, take away the drugs and the weakness disappears and a person will reappear. We don't need to out source anything. Simple enforcing laws and following through with punishment will bring in revenue. The city of Arcata could bring in thousands a day simply enforcing parking laws City wide instead of just the downtown area, Eureka as well. The City's and County could enforce encroachment fees, business licenses, unpermitted work is costing them hundreds of thousands a month in lost fees. The County and state are losing Millions from unlicensed contractors with no business licenses, not paying their taxes, not paying their equipment tax alone cost the county Millions. It won't be popular but it's necessary. Enforcement of law's what a concept .

  10. Went by the block pictured with the no left turn arrow. Funny how the other 1/2 of the block looks to be maintained regularly. Because the building owner cares perhaps? The unmaintained 1/2 is a drug dealing business umm, whoops a medical Cannabis Distribution Hub. So yeah, the Pot Broker's don't give a shit.... supprise, supprise.

    1. No one person can fix the mess Humboldt has been in for decades. And it is made worse by the idiot we have as Governor. Moonbeam and his equally useless sidekicks like Kamala Harris and Gavin Newsom and the plague of myopic, uneducated voters have ruined this state's potential. We have good people in this town but the special interests, both the so called "conservatives" and hypocritical elite liberals make it impossible for anyone decent to run.Rusty and Gabrielle are two examples of the many decent citizens in this town, county and state who suffer because of bad decisions by keyboard warriors. No one with any sense would run for Mayor or Eureka City Council after the mess created by this present and mostly "progressive" City Council.

    4. Anon, anon, your obsession and constant stalking of me is boring. You take comments I have made in reference to Jon Yalcinkaya in the past and string them together as something you wrote. You leaping to take a dig every time I speak the truth only proves you are afraid that I am effective and you are the one scared. I know you crave the attention and every once in a while, I print your comments to show how sick and desperate you are. Most of the time, they go into the trash. Sometimes I share it with others. We all laugh at how you sit around all day, every day, stalking and obsessing and commenting thinking how your pathetic attempts somehow affect me. It is so easy to bait you. Documenting anonymous comments of local cowards like you only proves, what I wrote above. You are nothing, will amount to nothing and are full of hate and jealousy. Do keep sending your comments, it isnt like you have a life or anything to do.

    7. I have no idea. All I know is that Lost Coast Toiletpost stopped linking him months back. Whether it was because he called them out regarding their Lawson coverage or he fell from the already pathetically low standard they have about linking anyone or printing any garbage, who knows, who cares?

  17. Folks were losing our path of concern-poop,leaves, and needles-PLN. The PLN will always exist in a liberal promoted and controlled environment. Stop pandering to the homeless derelicts by closing Chins house ,halfway to nowhere houses, food pantries, missionaries, and reject the socialism agenda it supports and magnifies. I wish all of Humboldt was like Garden Grove in Oregon-NO CRAP PEOPLE. But as has been stated, the 60+ % of the Eureka Council is socialist driven so how can you fight that agenda? Impossible. The citizens voted this problem in and will have to live with the horrible results for decades to come.
