You are going to have to wait a little longer for that Cap' N Zach crab house fix

Usually by this time Cap' N Zach's crab house is bustling with business.

This year, they have delayed their opening. But not for the reason you think.

"We have been hearing a lot about domoic acid in the last two years but it is not a new phenomenon, " said Zach and Susan Rotwein, owners of Capn Zach's Crab House in Mckinleyville. "There is more awareness and testing now."

"We take pride in the quality of our crab and care about the health of our customers," Ms. Rotwein told me.

"We will be open when we can serve crab that has been purchased by local fishermen," said Ms. Rotwein.

Local crab will have to meet the quality, quantity of meat and value as well as safe consumption standards that the Rotweins are used to providing for their customers.

  1. Compliments to the owners for holding off until the go ahead on local crabs. Their behavior is a plus and should be acknowledged when patronizing them for crab(s).
