"We were out on foot checking doors and looking for people who were up to no good at odd hours of the night"

If you happen to arrive at your Old Town/Downtown Eureka  business one of these mornings and find an officer's business card affixed to your door, this is why as EPD Officer Elliott Aello explains it:

"We were out on foot checking doors and looking for people who were up to no good at odd hours of the night.  We have been getting sustained complaints from business owners in the area about subjects at night causing problems.  In an effort to have and show more of a presence downtown during those hours, the members of my watch have been placing business cards in the doors of businesses we check.  It's just our way of letting you know we were out walking around at night. Your business looked good."

Our officers frequently conduct security and patrol checks around the city at various hours which some might not be aware of. Leaving a business card behind from time to time is one way for our officers to let you know they personally checked your property.  (But just because you don't find a card doesn't necessarily mean a proactive security check wasn't done.)

I appreciate the extra effort by Officer Aello and his team as I'm sure do you.

Stay safe and Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours,

Chief Steve Watson #TeamEureka
