"I really appreciate Bill and his service over the last 30 years and wish him good luck in the future."

Just spoke with Councilmember Kim Bergel, who is HBF JPA Board Chair about Chief  Bill Gillespie's abrupt resignation.

Councilmember Bergel said there was not much she could say since the matter was discussed in closed session.

"I really appreciate Bill and his service over the last 30 years and wish him good luck in the future."

I have contacted Chief Gillespie for comment. He is putting something together to send out to the community.

Press Release:

Humboldt Bay Fire Joint Powers Authority Board of Directors has accepted Fire Chief Bill Gillespie’s resignation from Humboldt Bay Fire. Deputy Fire Chief Bill Reynolds has been appointed as the Acting Fire Chief until an Interim Fire Chief is selected and appointed. 1. Strange huh? I am curious to see what public statements, if any Austin Allison, who is on the JPA Board and buddies with Matt McFarland, Humboldt Bay Fire Union leader 652 will say or will he just hide behind the closed session excuse. Matt McFarland had no problem blabbing his mouth, of course to friendly lefty media about his opinions and insinuations. How very convenient for McFarland that his opinion of Chief Gillespie and whether it was related to this resignation or has any actual merit will remain a mystery since McFarland's claims cannot be backed or refuted because, well, you know it's closed session.

    2. Of course McFarland declined to speak on record on specific issues.

  2. Bill was a fine and dedicated fireman/Chief. He and his crew were mutual aid with their ladder truck when the Star Hotel in Fortuna was on fire in 2015. Submitting a resignation is a hard choice for a professional. There’s more to this story than were allowed to know and perhaps time will allow us some of those secrets.
THANK YOU BILL FOR YOUR DEDICATION AND SERVICE TO THE COMMUNITY!

  3. Kim is my all-time favorite councilperson. If she supports this move, I trust it is the correct one.
