Judge Moorman rules against former employee and he cannot sue County or PD's office for negligent hiring and supervision claims

In former Humboldt Deputy Public Defender Rory Kalin's lawsuit against Humboldt Superior Court Judge Gregory J. Kreis, current Public Defender Luke Brownfield and former Public Defender Marek Reavis, there was a demurrer filed by Brownfield and Reavis to the 15th and 16th causes of the third amended complaint.

In a ruling yesterday, Mendocino Judge Ann Moorman sustained that demurrer to those two causes of action without leave to amend. This demurrer pertains only to the County of Humboldt and Public Defender's office.

The arguments that claims of negligent hiring and supervision cannot be brought directly against a public entity have been discussed before in earlier hearings.
