"Our motivation was to preserve parking in the downtown to serve our customers and staff. Otherwise we would have been forced to relocate our offices outside the downtown."

Yesterday, I did a post on the City Hall parking lot and reached out to Mr. John Dalby, CEO of Redwood Capital Bank after response from the City of Eureka. I asked him, "Could you clarify what RCB using the lot for their own use means and why it is fenced and gated?"

RCB efforts to get the County and City to lease this parking lot were unsuccessful.

RCB and Security National are two major employers in Humboldt. Both have brought up concerns about parking and possible relocation of their offices.

John Dalby's response:

"John,

The Bank’s interest in the parking lot was obtained as part of a larger transaction.  Our motivation was to preserve parking in the downtown to serve our customers and staff.  Otherwise we would have been forced to relocate our offices outside the downtown."

"Regarding the lot on 5th and K, this was part of the transaction but is not necessary for the function of the bank due to its remote location.  We have unsuccessfully offered to lease the lot to either the County and the City.  It was determined that as long as we give away the parking for free, no one would wish to pay for it.  Both the County and the City were notified that the lot would be fenced before it happened."

If you are aware of someone who would be interested in leasing the lot, please let me know."
