"As an officer of the court, I can assure you, Mr. Eshghipour is deceased."

I wasn't going to do an update on the Maziar Eshghipour case because I expected it to be dismissed with the submission of a certified death certificate but after court today, I am. I have previously covered information on the funeral and hospital.

Mr. David Michael appeared on behalf of Eshghipour's mother and brother. There is a settlement agreement signed by Judge Christopher Wilson and the charges against them have been dismissed.

Mr. Greg Rael appeared on behalf of Eshghipour. Deputy District Attorney Candace Myers appeared on the case for the People.

Ms. Myers acknowledged the receipt of a copy of the death certificate and said, "The people are not yet prepared to dismiss given the nature of the charges; practicing dentistry without a license, forged documents. The People want to do their due diligence."

Ms. Myers asked for 30 days.

Mr. Rael mentioned that the death certificate was provided by Eshghipour's brother. He added that via Zoom, he attended Eshghipour's funeral and "the body was on display, the entire time. As an officer of the court, I can assure you, Mr. Eashghipour is deceased."

Mr. Michael said he was at the hospital when the decision was made by Eashghipour's mother to take him off life support.

Ms. Myers still insisted and brought up the forged documents

Mr. Rael responded that he could not imagine what an investigation would reveal "unless you can imagine he forged it after his own death."

Judge Lawrence Killoran asked Ms. Myers again if she wanted the matter put over. She said, "yes." Judge Killoran said he was not going to grant the 30 day request, only going to put it over a week, however due to Mr. Rael's schedule, it is now going to be heard on September 29.
