ReplyDeleteFirst trangendered state legislator! This is fantastic for our country!
I have lived in CA all of my life. We have always had crime and homeless. Before Jerry Brown was Governor. During the 28 years he was not CA’s Governor, while he was CA’s Governor. Beginning in 2019, we still will have crime and homelessness. Jerry Brown will not be Governor then. Prop 47 and 57 were passed by the voters. Unsure why there is this persistent blame of the Governor for what voters do. That is called a Democracy. In fact violent crime has actually plummeted. I prefer to look at this holistically. The reason why those laws came into being was as a result of a decision by the US Supreme Court ordering CA to reduce its 175% crowded prisons. Financially, the salary pressures emplaced by CCPOA also has lead to a requirement to reduce prison overcrowding. Also, here is a point blaming the Governor for passing the reforms approved by the voters on top of being wrong is also foolhardy. If anyone believes these laws can and should be undone, they can bring their own initiative on the ballot and seek repeals. They can also repeal AB 109. That is how democracy works.
ReplyDeleteAllan, I am going to call you out on your bs. It is not a secret that you are Democrat, liberal, progressive (whatever label you prefer)in your views. So, your comment is based on your bias about elected officials in your party and they are the majority in California and have been for the last several years. I have lived in Humboldt since 2003 and before that time visited and closely followed the decline of California. Crime and homelessness existed but things were not as bad as they are now. Google California on budget, mental health, crime and homelessness and you will find tons of articles from liberal leaning publications stating the decline of California in the recent years since Moonbeam has been in charge. Prop 47, Prop 57, AB 109, as stated many times on this blog by me and others, were passed by uneducated voters who vote Democrat regardless of qualification and others who were misled by Moonbeam. There is regret by many. There are efforts to change this, but who is listening? It is not a Democracy when environmental radical and other left leaning groups get in charge and are funded and supported by myopics like Tom Steyer and the liberal Tech CEOS and Hollywood stars who throw their weight around Gavin Newsom, Kamala Harris and other electe morons. Many Liberals, Progressives and Democrats socially and financially punish anyone who is moderate and conservative, kill any industry that is not drug and alcohol based and decide for the rest of the state that legal weed is the future. It is not that simple but this conversation is not one to debate in a comment on a blog. It is Democrats that have funds for illegals, want a sanctuary state but need money to fix roads. Moonbeam wants to build his ridiculous train instead of investing into jobs and infrastructure. It is easy for you to speak when you are in a profession where you can charge $100s per hour. I like you as a person, I have supported as an attorney, thank you for your service to our country but you cannot see or understand what it is like to struggle, and struggle in California, to be conservative. You want to sit there and tell me that Moonbeam is not soft on crime, not backing probation funding for political reasons, not appointing Judges based on politics instead of capability? He should be addressing crime, homelessness and public safety. The voters who get it have no time to sit around and pontificate online. They are busy trying to survive in a state with high crime, out of control housing costs and constant barriers to development. There would be no prison overcrowding if Moonbeam and Democrats stopped coddling criminals, stopped trying to get rid of bail, stop killing the economy by taxing the heck out of people and put money into mental health services and rehab. Why isn't Laura's law statewide in California? Because like most issues, Democrats give lip service to issues and show fake concern. The conservatives with money in this state aren't off the hook either. They have failed the few of us who would move in a heartbeat as soon as we can afford it or chose stay and fight for a state that could prosper again.
