04-19-2020, at approximately 7:35 PM, the Humboldt Area CHP responded to a crash at the intersection of S. Broadway and Purdue Dr., in the Humboldt Hill area. Upon CHP arrival, officers discovered an overturned, unoccupied, Ford Mustang which had hit a pole and caused power to go out to a portion of the area.

Around 1 a.m. heard a female screaming. Sounded like the direction of 5th Street. Some ruckus. Once that finally quieted down. Around 1:20 a.m. these two guys started yelling. That fence and alley are a problem and daily since the shelter in place order.

What caught my attention besides the constant "Fuck, Fuck, Fuck" which was every other word, was the words "murder", "I got money" and "got out of there."

With inmates being released from jail due to changes instituted because of COVID 19 such as the emergency bail or not being booked into the jail, are Eureka police officers encountering more repeat offenders when they respond to calls.

Just from my observation and knowing the frequent flyers from the Courthouse, I could tell this is happening. Right now, not every call results in an arrest.

Humboldt County’s case count remains 52. No additional cases were confirmed today.

Doubt declared, criminal proceedings suspended for Shantaram Jones

Preliminary hearing for Shantaram Jones was scheduled for April 23. Jones is charged with PC 451(b)-arson of an inhabited structure or property. It was vacated after criminal proceedings were suspended today.

At a hearing yesterday, U.S. District Judge Jesus Bernal indicated he was going to deny the request for a temporary restraining order in Gish vs Newsom. This is a lawsuit filed on April 13 and plaintiffs are from three different Southern California Churches. He is going to isssue a formal opinion.
