Michael McBeth loses small claims case and has to pay up

 


On March 30, I reported Michael McBeth was being sued by Billy Wayne Hicks in small claims court for $10,000.

On 4/1, there was an  entry of judgement against McBeth and he has to pay Hicks $3,602.47 and $115 costs on claim.

Charles Phillip was given the Challenge Coin by Interim Eureka Police Chief Todd Jarvis. On December 4, EPD responded to a sexual assault in progress. Phillip aided an unconscious victim who was being sexually assaulted and separated her from the perpetrator.

Phillip said he lives in low income housing. "I really appreciate this because the police are the only one who come when we call" said Phillip.

Eureka City Council just did the roll call and Pledge of Allegiance. About 24 people are here but those numbers could fluctuate since a few people are here for proclamations.  The number also includes Eureka Police Department Interim Chief Todd Jarvis and EPD Captain Brian Stephens.

Samantha Luna resolved her case today with 7 misdemeanor counts with an informal diversion. I reported on Luna's plea deal in October 2021 and how it sends the wrong message.

City of Eureka wants to survey public about EPD and crime in Eureka

The City of Eureka, in collaboration with research faculty from the Applied Anthropology and Ethnographic Research Lab at Cal Poly Humboldt, is conducting research on public perceptions and experiences of the Eureka Police Department’s community engagement, as well as neighborhood crime and quality of life conditions in Eureka.

Assault suspect Dustin Latham's motion to reduce bail backfired on him. His custody status is now no bail. In addition to that, the excellent argument by Deputy District Attorney Trent Timm has now solidified on record the kind of criminal Latham is and thanks to Mr. Timm and Judge Kaleb Cockrum, the witnesses and public are safe. Latham is ineligible for probation due to two prior felonies.

Byron Dean Titus' sentencing continued, will defense may file for a new trial

 


Byron Dean Titus, Jr was found guilty by a jury in March for attempted premeditated murder, assault with a firearm with the special allegation that he personally used a firearm to commit the crimes, aggravated mayhem, residential burglary, and shooting at an inhabited dwelling.   

His sentencing today was continued to April 12. Defense is going to "explore a motion for new trial."

Mauricio's mother Melissa Johnson expected to enter guilty plea?

Melissa Johnson and her co-defendant convicted sex offender Von Keener's preliminary hearing has been continued several times. Today, at least one of them is expected to have a resolution. 

I just learned that Melissa Johnson is going to enter a guilty plea. She did. However, the plea was withdrawn. Preliminary hearing continued to 4/19 at request of defense.

Kerry Hengio arrested for child abuse, violating a restraining order and probation violation


Kerry Mac Hengio was arrested by Eureka Police Department early this morning for PC 1203.2 (a) probation violation, PC 273.6 (a) violation of restraining order and  PC 273 (d) Child abuse / inflicting physical punishment on a child.

On April 3, 2022, at about 10:59 a.m., Humboldt County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to a residence on the 4700 block of Greenwood Heights Drive in Kneeland for a suspicious death investigation.

Second time no booking photo from EPD and second time it is a woman

 


Hailey Renee Stogner was arrested in the early am hours this morning by Eureka Police Department and booked in the jail for domestic battery. The jail log shows she is still in custody.

The applicant in the Bushnell incident is Thomas Harwood

 


The information on who the applicant is in the complaint filed by County Planner against Second District Supervisor Michelle Bushnell is included in the timeline. Thomas Harwood made the headlines in 2020.

Nicholas Scott arrested for criminal threats, false imprisonment, assault, probation violation


Nicholas Christopher Scott was arrested by Fortuna Police Department for PC 422 criminal threats, PC 1203.2(a)(2) probation violation, PC591.5 damaging communication device with intent to prevent a person from contacting law enforcement or getting help, PC 242 assault, PC 240 battery and PC 236 false imprisonment.

The chances Ulisses Rodriguez gets sentenced today are slim

 


Ulisses Rodriguez was scheduled to be sentenced this morning. No probation report had been received. The sentencing was continued to this afternoon.

Rodriguez turned down an offer made by the People before the trial started. Now that he could be sentenced to life without the possibility of parole, Rodriguez requested a Marsden hearing.
