I am sure there are people locally who would run me over and want to but the person who said this patiently waited for me to cross the street. It was a green light. There are a few considerate pedestrians left in Eureka. I encounter them and always wave and thank them.

The moment I heard my full name, I knew who it was; I stopped and asked Eureka Councilmember Kim Bergel how she was doing. She was at the busy intersection of 4th and I and most people do not extend the courtesy.

She pulled over briefly where there is a parking lot for a minute and we had a safe, quick, polite chat.

Jasmine Sheets released from custody

 

An older woman and a man with an infant were in court today to support Jasmine Sadie Aileen Sheets.

Probation recommended she be released on supervised release. Sheets has no rap sheet. She was released with several terms including no consumption of alcohol as well as participation in substance abuse and mental health treatment.

Arcata attempted murder suspect Kaven Latheniel Dangerfield was arraigned today.

High risk parolee and convicted sex offender with 32 cases arrested again but released on OR?

 

High risk parolee, peeping Tom and convicted sex offender Charles Steven Flinn was arrested yesterday; again; by State Parole for PC 3000.08(c) parole revocation. He was released on O.R. despite this being a felony charge.

He already had 32 cases in the Humboldt Superior Court system.

They are getting more brazen and mentioning police does not deter them. They mouth off to security, walk into businesses, hotels and offices demanding stuff. The homeless are not the issue; it is the decades of professional bums who run this town and  are emboldened by enablers who don't have to deal with them or the consequences they create.

There was an OR/bail hearing today for alleged child molestor Manuel Francisco Garcia Avalos.

Deputy District Attorney Whitney Timm is the prosecutor for the case. Deputy Public Defender Wade Orbelian is the prosecutor. DA Investigator Ryan Hill was in court.

Jasmine Sheets charged with child abuse

 

The complaint for Jasmine Sadie Aileen Sheets was amended to correct Jane Doe's DOB to October 4, 2020. The charge is the same, one count of PC 273 a (a),child abuse.

Monsignor resigns after allegations in Catholic news site about Grindr

 

Monsignor Jeffrey Burrill, General secretary  for the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops’ (USCCB) top resigned after the organization became aware of allegations reported by The Pillar,a Catholic news site. The Pillar alleges the priest had visited gay bars and used the hook-up app Grindr. 

The USCCB statement did not address the specifics.

Multiple agencies involved in attempted murder arrest which leads to discovery of illegal marijuana cultivation

On 07-04-2021 at about 8:20 PM, Mendocino County Sheriff's Deputies and medical personnel were dispatched to the Cal-Fire Covelo Substation for a reported victim of a gunshot wound who was dropped off at the location.

Missing 20 year old arrested by Rio Dell PD for public intoxication

Yesterday, HCSO issued a press release about Vrbas being missing. She was arrested by Rio Dell police at 1:26 a.m. this morning for public intoxication.

California Treasurer Fiona Ma sued by former employee alleging sexual harassment and wrongful termination

Judith Blackwell worked under California Treasurer Fiona Ma for 16 months as executive director of the California Tax Credit Allocation Committee. She filed a lawsuit last week in Sacramento County Superior Court for sexual harassment and wrongful termination.

Murder suspect Daniella Moore was arraigned on information this morning. 

Next court date is August 18 for trial setting and third doctor's report.

Defense likely to file a continuance in Timothy Miller-Roberts case

 

At trial confirmation for alleged rapist Timothy Miller-Roberts, the People announced they were ready and confirmed. Defense stated a motion to continue would be filed.   

Jury trial scheduled for August 2 remains set for now with a 2 week estimate.

Manuel Francisco Garcia Avalos arraigned on child molestation and sodomy charges

 

Manuel Francisco Garcia Avalos was arraigned yesterday on 11 counts. There are three victims.His bail was increased to $750,000.

Dustin Lawler is one of the four inmates and he keeps being released and rearrested. I have seen his name on the jail log, at least twice , within a matter of days.

Another attempted murder arrest by APD

Kaven Latheniel Dangerfield was arrested by APD Detective Victoria Johnson yesterday and booked for PC 245(a) (1) assault with a deadly weapon and  PC664/187(a) attempted murder. Dangerfield is being held on a no bail status.
