Another woman on the Humboldt bench and a challenger for Jared Huffman?

(Van Dyke)

Since my last Humboldt election update, two potential candidates have pulled paperwork for signatures in lieu of filing fees. One is former Deputy Conflict Counsel April Van Dyke for one of the two Humboldt Superior Court judge positions.

They still have to turn the paperwork in and I hope Ms. Van Dyke does. Google her name on my blog. The Humboldt Court insiders may not like it but the public deserves another decent Humboldt Judge who isn't a part of the good ole boys and gals clique. Having another woman who brings diversity in many ways to the local bench and is qualified would be a nice addition. If I had to compare whose courtrooms are better run in the local courts, more women judges make the list compared to the men. From what I understand, it is for the position currently occupied by scandal ridden incumbent Judge Gregory Kreis. The other Judge position is the one currently held by Judge Lawrence Killoran.

I reached out to Ms. Van Dyke, heard from her and will update with response.

The other is Northwest Wholesale Motor Sales owner Jolian Kanges for the U.S. Representative for California's 2nd congressional district against incumbent Jared Huffman. I just spoke with him. Mr. Kanges took out the papers a couple of hours ago. "One of the main reasons I decided to run is to provide people with an alternative. Jared Huffman has been ignoring us since he was elected. I feel we don't have a voice in Washington."

According to his Linkedin profile, prior to owning this business, he was an independent contractor at North Coast Legal Support, was on the Humboldt Civil Grand Jury from 2019-2020 and graduated from Humboldt State University.
