Both PG & E and a Shelter Cove woman are suing the County on tax issues, the difference in who could prevail is obvious

On the September 12, 2023 on the Board of Supervisors' agenda there was discussion about existing litigation in the case of Christine Bennett v. Humboldt County Tax Collector’s Office, Humboldt County Superior Court Case No. CV2301228.

According to the BOS action summary, "The Board voted unanimously to authorize the Humboldt County Counsel’s Office to defend the case of Christine Bennett v. Humboldt County Tax Collector’s Office, Humboldt County Superior Court Case No. CV2301228."

I looked up the case in e court and had to wait until documents were filed and an actual court date was set. This week when I checked on the case, there is a demurrer filed by the County and a hearing on that is scheduled for 10/20. According to Humboldt e court, Bennett is representing herself. Her complaint lists this as a wrongful foreclosure case. Documents filed by the County make some claims about alleged legal representation and assistance.

Representing yourself in any case, especially a civil lawsuit against the government, without a competent lawyer is not a good idea Christine. From what you have filed so far, can't really comment definitively on your case but the chances for you prevailing at the October hearing are slim. Christine, you should take a look at the letter sent by PG & E to the BOS on April 5, 2023.

I have been doing research on property taxes including a case filed by the Pacific Legal Foundation that the Supreme Court has agreed to hear. The PG & E letter has some information that came up in my research.

These are some of the court documents,  some excerpts and exhibits for the Bennett lawsuit.
