Male in Cousin Street incident arrested, female transported to St. Joe's

Eureka Police Captain Brian Stephens just issued a press release with some initial information about the Cousins Street incident. Investigation is still active and more details will be released when it is completed.

EPD Press Release:

On May 29, 2022, at about 11:32 a.m., the Eureka Police Department responded to a residence on the 1200 block of Cousins Street for the report of a male in possession of a firearm who was refusing to allow a female resident to leave.

As officers arrived on scene, they as well as nearby neighbors heard a single gunshot from the area near the residence. Based on the circumstances and the investigation to this point, officers established a perimeter and made a request for assistance from the Humboldt County Sheriff's Department SWAT and Crisis Negotiation Teams (CNT).  Upon their arrival, contact was made at the residence utilizing verbal commands.  The occupants of the residence, a male and female, exited the residence.

The male was detained and the female was transported by City Ambulance to St. Joseph hospital for a medical evaluation. At the time of this press release, EPD Detectives are still on scene executing search warrants, conducting interviews, and collecting evidence.

Additional information concerning the arrest and subsequent charges will be released at the conclusion of the investigation. This is an active and on-going investigation.

If you have any information in regards to this incident, please contact Det. Eckert at 707-441-4060. The Eureka Police Department would like to thank the Humboldt County Sheriff's Department, the members of SWAT and CNT, Humboldt Bay Fire, and City Ambulance for their assistance with this incident.
