The Romero motion is the latest effort by Markis Shirley to delay his sentencing

Setting of sentencing for convicted felon Markis Shirley was scheduled on May 23. That date was vacated last week. Since my last post, Shirley's sentencing has been continued several times.

On 5/19 Romero motion and sentencing continued to 6/10. New discovery provided to Shirley's attorney, Mr. Zach Curtis.

Shirley has 29 plus local cases. The career criminal found guilty by a jury on September 27, 2021. I have covered Shirley for years.

Shouse law: "A Romero motion is where the defendant asks the court to remove or “strike” a prior strike conviction so that it does not get used as a sentencing enhancement. The defense can bring the motion at any point in a California criminal case up to the sentencing hearing. If the motion is granted, it can significantly reduce the length of a state prison sentence."

6/10: Romero motion ruling and sentencing continued to 6/17.

6/17: Ruling on Romero motion and sentencing continued to 7/8.
