Gearold Sotolongo has been in custody for 2260 days

As of as of 5/17 Gearold Sotolongo has been in custody for 2260 days. This is a 2016 case with one count of murder and special allegation. Even if he is convicted in the current jury trial, these credits will knock off a chunk of time from his sentence.

Deputy District Attorney Roger Rees and Deputy DA Jessica Watson are prosecutors for the case. Ms. Watson gave a brief opening statement. Prior to stabbing Rodger Yale, Sotolongo and a group of friends argued with Yale. Both parties started to walk away, then video surveilance at the Hoopa mini mart will show that Sotolongo killed Yale. There is only one count of murder and a special allegation.

9:50 a.m. Defense has the right to reserve opening statement until later and Mr. Zach Curtis just informed Judge Lawrence Killoran that is what he will do.

I added some court minutes about evidence and jury selection and change in Judge assigned to the case to my recent May post.

I will not be covering this case in detail but I will provide updates and the verdict. There are other current cases and news that most people are interested in and people are free to attend this jury trial if they want.
