"I was told that the County would be hiring an outside attorney to represent the Board but he did not know what I would be able to do for my own representation."

The County paid for Deputy County Counsel Natalie Duke and former Deputy County Counsel Blair Angus' attorneys. They are paying for legal representation for former Public Defender Marek Reavis and current Public Defender Luke Brownfield. So why are they treating Humboldt Auditor Controller Karen Paz Dominguez differently in a lawsuit filed against her with the County as a co-defendant.

I sent Humboldt Auditor Controller Karen Paz Dominguez the following question yesterday afternoon.

Have you seen/been given the entire complaint filed against you and the County Case No. CV2200584? Has anyone from the County discussed with you legal representation for you since this lawsuit is filed against you as an employee of the County?

She sent me the following response:

"I was provided a copy of the entire complaint filed against me and the County by Ryan Burns on Monday, May 2nd. Subsequently on the same day, I asked the CAO about it and she provided me a copy as well. Two days later, on Wednesday, May 4th, a process server delivered the complaint to the A-C Office. On Friday, May 6th, I called my department’s County Counsel liaison and asked about the complaint. I was told that the County would be hiring an outside attorney to represent the Board but he did not know what I would be able to do for my own representation. I have not received any other communication from the Board, CAO, or County Counsel about what I should expect from the County with regard to this complaint. I have also not been invited to participate in the closed session discussions surrounding this complaint wherein the Board and I are presumably on the same side."

Kent Sawatzky told me he asked the Board about Paz Dominguez and legal representation today.
