Judge Miles and Judge Neel save the day

Retired Judge Marilyn Miles is in Courtroom 5 today instead of Judge Christopher Wilson. Assistant Presiding Judge Kelly Neel is doing double duty. This morning, after calling her calendar in Courtroom 1, she was going over to Courtroom 2 to cover Judge Kaleb Cockrum's calendar. Courtroom 2 wasn't even open as of 9:15.

Training, sickness, vacation and being short handed is making the second floor more chaotic than usual. Last two days, two guys decided to add to the stress of the jurors, the bailiffs and anyone using the Courthouse who had to deal with their disruptive behavior. The bailiffs handled it professionally and calmly.

A few business owners mentioned the same thing I have seen in the last two weeka. A lot of new people on the streets,. Where are they all coming from? Downtown Eureka and the Courthouse is already a very draining environment. An increase in the negative energy puts an unfair burden on those who live and work in the area daily and deal with the public.
