Instrument landing system has been down for a week. I spoke with Mr. Cody Roggatz, Director of Aviation. This is due to FAA updates to the system. After checks, ILS should be back online on Monday. The only impacts have been weather related, said Mr. Roggatz.
The County issued this press release on July 26:
Some flights at the California Redwood Coast – Humboldt County Airport (ACV) may be affected through Monday as a result of necessary upgrades being done by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to their navigational equipment on the airport’s main runway. The work is expected to be complete by Monday, July 29.
The instrument landing system helps pilots land in challenging weather situations, and it has been fully operational to this point. However, due to FAA guidelines certain components of this system need to be upgraded periodically. Typically, flights with heavy rain or fog will be most impacted.
“I know the FAA is working as quickly and efficiently as they can to get this replacement done,” said Cody Roggatz, Director of Aviation. “Their team is working diligently to minimize disruptions to flights, but some arriving and departing flights may be impacted until this work is done.”
Weather related means all those black Mercedes buses are full of passengers coming from San Francisco who couldn't land all morning. Would be nice to know that the system is down before you fly all the way from SFO to ACV just to get sent back to SFO to ride a bus for six hours back to ACV. When you start you day a 2am expecting to be home a 10am and you get home at 8pm.....we'll that person was to say the least....Cranky.
