July 17 facebook post by EPD Chief Steve Watson:
Here’s surveillance of another tagger in Eureka. This one hit Tuesday night just before 11:00 PM in Old Town. A surveillance video screen shot is attached. Suspect looks like a female with a dark pony tail, pink or tan backpack, riding a long board. She tags “skunk.”
EPD Press Release:
On July 17, 2019, the Eureka Police Department received an email from a Eureka business owner that included a link to a recent “tagging” that occurred in an alley in Old Town on Tuesday, July 16th, just before 11:00 PM.
The video showed a female suspect tag the word “Skunk” onto an electrical box using a large black marker. The video was shared by EPD on social media which led to the suspect soon being identified.
On July 18, 2019, a Eureka Police Sergeant conducted follow-up on the information we received concerning the identity and location of the suspect. The suspect was contacted at her place of work and identified as Kirstie Kay Wright (31-years-old). During the Sergeant’s investigation, Wright admitted to tagging the word “Skunk” as seen in the video surveillance. She was also found to be in possession of graffiti instruments.
Furthermore, Wright was found to be on active parole out of Humboldt County. Wright was arrested for possession of graffiti tools and a hold was placed on her by Parole. She was booked into the Humboldt County Correctional Facility and is being held without bail due to the parole hold. This is an ongoing investigation. EPD is currently putting together an expanded criminal case that will be forwarded to the Humboldt County District Attorney’s office for possible prosecution over other properties that have been vandalized by Wright.
If you are the owner or person responsible for a location that has been vandalized with the word “Skunk” in the City of Eureka, EPD asks that you contact Sergeant Greg Hill at (707) 441-4355.
EPD would like to thank the business owner for proactively providing the video that ultimately led us to Wright. Additionally, EPD would like to thank the citizens who provided the information we needed to locate and arrest her.
