Defense expert reports and 28 gigabytes of evidence in Ulisses Rodriguez's case impact when trial will proceed
Dates were set in murder suspect Ulisses Rodriguez's case this morning, however there is still a possibility that could change.
Rodriguez refuses to waive time, continuances have been granted over his objection so Deputy Public Defender Ben McLaughlin can adequately prepare for this case.
Today, Mr. McLaughlin told Visiting Judge Marjorie Carter that dates could be set but put certain caveats on the record. Deputy District Attorney Trent Timm asked dates be set but he acknowledged the reasons mentioned by defense.
Mr. McLaughlin has three other "life cases" set for jury trial in September,January and March. He mentioned February 2020 or May 2020 as options.
There are 28 gigabytes of data as evidence in this case. Mr. McLaughlin is still waiting on reports from a cell phone expert, forensic pathologist and forensic analysis. Until he receives those reports, Mr. McLaughlin does not know if he will be calling these experts. This is a double homicide case.
Time estimate is 4 weeks. Trial confirmation is scheduled for January 29. Jury trial for February 10.
