Seng Yang was sentenced to 161 years to life this morning. He will serve each sentence consecutively. Count 14 was dismissed by the People in the interest of justice.
Count One 16 years; Count Two 15 years; Count 3 Three 15 years; Count Four 10 years; Count Five 11 years; Count Six 11 years ; Count Seven 11 years; Count Eight 11 years; Count Nine 10 years; Count Ten 11years; Count Twelve 9 years; Count Thirteen 11 years; Count Fourteen dismissed "in the interest of justice"; Count Fifteen 1 year and Count Sixteen 8 years.
I will attach court minutes when available instead of typing out the court fines etc. Yang has to pay restitution to Jane Doe. Restitution is reserved regarding her siblings.
He has credit for 571 days; good conduct credit at a rate of 15% for 85 days for a total of 656 days.
If released, he will be on parole for three years. Yang has to be tested for AIDS.
Even Judge John Feeney "choked up"as he addressed Jane Doe after she finished her statement. Judge Feeney wished Jane Doe success and hapiness in her life.
This is the first time Jane Doe spoke and her other foster parent spoke. Jane Doe showed the same strength she has through the ordeal she went through and the process. Very briefly, she addressed what she endured saying that she "felt dirty" and that no one had educated her about rape or sexual harassment.
She said she wanted people to celebrate and not feel sad because she and her siblings were finally free of the horror. Jane Doe thanked the Judge, the courts, her foster family and even strangers she did not know who showed her love and support. Jane Doe's foster mom sobbed, and her siblings wiped tears as she spoke.
Jane Doe's foster mom has been at every hearing. The foster mom with two other men are raising Jane Doe's siblings. I don't know if the men are a couple. It doesn't matter because these children are finally with wonderful people who love them and have been exemplary through this court process.
The extended family, the children's momKristy Lee still has contact with the children. The foster dad said while they want to involve the family and culture, that it is not acceptable for the family to blame Jane Doe. Yang is using his family to manipulate Jane Doe and make her feel guilty. The foster dad through the court saying Yang was not the victim and it is time for him to stop blaming his daughter.
Yang, as usual, ranted and in his statement blamed everyone else. Yang was the narcissist he has been throughout the court process and is still in denial. Yang also used his statement to attack the foster dad who spoke. Yang does not deserve the label man or husband or father.
Two jurors, Jane Doe, her siblings, foster family, several supporters of Jane Doe and probation attended the hearing. Yang's parents and other family members were also in court.
Yang was found guilty of 16 felonies on June 3. Charges included forcible rape of his own daughter and exhibiting his daughter, a minor, in pornography.
