Solana County coroner identified Mary Hadley as the woman who died in a motorcycle crash

The Solano County coroner's office has identified a woman who died in a motorcycle crash involving an allegedly impaired driver in Fairfield Wednesday night as Mary Hadley, 55, of Eureka.

Hadley was a passenger on a Harley-Davidson motorcycle driving east on Interstate Highway 80 by Stephen Chiara, 47, of Fairfield around 8:45 p.m., California Highway Patrol Officer David Harvey said.

Chiara lost control of the motorcycle near Interstate Highway 680, and he and Hadley were ejected from the motorcycle onto the right shoulder of eastbound Highway 80, Harvey said.

Both suffered major injuries and were taken to NorthBay Medical Center in Fairfield. Hadley was pronounced dead soon after arrival, and Chiara was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, Harvey said.

Speed also appears to be a factor in the crash, Harvey said.

In 2006, the Ninth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals overturned Chiara's  first degree murder conviction stating jurors that were Native American or Filipino or Japanese and others were improperly excluded from his trial.

In 2007, there was a retrial of Chiara's case.

Mary Hadley is the former Public Defender investigator.
